❗IMPORTANT: on the nature of this role❗
This is a hands-on advisory role, not an operating one (you will not carry a number, own a P&L, or manage the companies’ sales teams. This role does not include commission or variable pay tied to a single company’s performance. If you would miss these responsibilities, this is not the role for you).
The profile that thrives in this role is a senior operator who has earned their stripes running sales, and who now gets more satisfaction from developing other leaders and businesses across a portfolio than from owning a single company’s quota.
What this role offers is influence across a portfolio of businesses, freedom from single-company politics, and real flexibility in how and when you work. Your job is to make our companies’ own sales leaders succeed by advising and coaching: success looks like a Head of Sales who runs a better business because you were there.
🎯 Mission & Core Purpose
As a Portfolio Sales Advisor, you will report to the Director of Growth and work for the SaaS division (a €300m ca revenue group of +15 software businesses, built through acquisition and spanning a wide range of products and markets, from social media management to point of sale) directly inside our companies (one or two at a time) to diagnose and improve their sales go-to-market. We are building a small central capability to support the sales and go-to-market performance of these businesses. This role is the senior advisory part of that: a proven sales leader who helps our companies’ own sales leaders get materially better.
You will embed with a company’s CEO and head of sales for a focused period, understand how they identify their ideal customers, how their funnel works end to end, how their team is structured and how they sell, and then help them fix what is holding them back and build what they are missing.
💼 Key Responsibilities
- Diagnose: focus on one or two companies at a time, embedding for a defined period of several months. Assess a company’s sales go-to-market quickly and honestly: ICP and segmentation, pipeline and conversion, team structure and roles, forecasting, and where revenue is leaking.
- Coach and build: work alongside each company’s CEO and Head of Sales to fix what is broken and build what is missing, staying long enough to make the change stick rather than handing over a slide deck and leaving. Authority comes from the mandate the division gives the role and from your own credibility as someone who has done the job, not from a reporting line. Central performance visibility, dashboards, and sales tooling are handled separately within the team. This role is the subject-matter expert, not the data engineer: you use the numbers; you do not build the pipes.
- Develop leaders: many of our sales leaders have grown into the role from within their company. A large part of this job is developing them: raising their game, not replacing them.
- Bring the outside in: carry modern sales best practices from company to company, so the portfolio compounds what works rather than each business learning it alone.
- Flag honestly: give the division a clear, unemotional read on where each company you work with genuinely stands, and where intervention will and will not pay off.
💡 Experience & Skills
- Sales leadership at scale: +10 years and a proven track record as a senior sales leader (VP of Sales, Sales Director, CRO, or equivalent) in B2B SaaS leadership roles with a European market focus and across more than one business or sales model, having carried and scaled a sales organisation (you have built pipeline, structured teams, fixed forecasting, and lived the problems you will be helping others solve).
- Advisory temperament: genuine coach and developer of people skills, patient enough to build up a less experienced sales leader rather than talk over them. Credibility and presence to earn the trust of a company’s CEO and Head of Sales quickly, and to be listened to because of what you have done, not the title you hold. You are comfortable being accountable without being responsible, and effective without a reporting line.
- Practical fit: working knowledge of modern sales operations, HubSpot and Salesforce environments, and the metrics that matter, enough to diagnose and advise credibly. You will not be asked to build or administer the tooling.
- Happy to travel to and spend focused time inside our companies.
- Full professional proficiency in English.
👤 Added Values
- Low ego, high credibility: you build trust with a wide range of people and let your work show your strengths rather than telling people about them.
- Honest and direct: you speak the truth as you see it, kindly and clearly, and you present it with data rather than opinion.
- Comfortable with ambiguity: you can walk into a business you do not know, orient fast, and be useful quickly.
- Motivated by breadth: you are energised by helping several businesses improve, and you value scope and flexibility over the ownership and comp of a single-company operating seat.
⏱️ Flexible 100% FTE or Fractional
We are open to this role being full-time or fractional. For the right senior operator who values flexibility, an arrangement of two to three days a week across the portfolio may suit both sides well.
