Why good resumes get no reply
Software reads your resume before a person does
Every application goes through an applicant tracking system, or ATS. Here is what happens in the first minute.
-
You click apply
Your PDF lands in the company's ATS with hundreds of others.
-
Software splits it into fields
Name, titles, dates, skills. A scanned page or a two-column layout leaves fields empty.
-
A recruiter searches those fields
They filter by skill and years of experience. An empty field keeps you out of the results.
A resume can look great on your screen and read as blank space to the software. The checker shows you which parts the software can read.
What the ATS Resume Checker looks at
45 checks in 11 categories
Every check shows its result for free. Each rule comes from how ATS software parses a file, how a recruiter reads it, or what remote employers ask for.
-
ATS essentials
Is the text real text? Single column? Clean encoding, sane page count, readable links.
-
Contact info
Email, phone and LinkedIn present, parseable, and near the top of page one.
-
Resume sections
Experience, Education, Skills and a summary under headings the parser expects.
-
Content quality
Numbers in your bullets, weak phrases like "responsible for", buzzwords, repeated verbs, spelling, length.
-
Skills & dates
Named hard skills the filters match on, and date ranges the software can turn into years of experience.
-
HR red flags
Unexplained gaps, several short stints, big claims with no evidence, dates that invite age bias.
-
Seniority
Career progression in your titles, skills backed by evidence, leadership signals.
-
Bullet quality
Does each bullet open with a verb and end with a result? We rank your weakest bullets.
-
Order & consistency
Newest role first, one date format, past tense for past roles, sections in the expected order.
-
Remote readiness
Time zone stated, remote work named on your roles, the collaboration tools distributed teams use.
-
Target role fit
Your skills against what live remote job posts for your target role ask for most. Matched and missing, named.
-
Bonus: a match score on every job
The same resume gets a match score on every DailyRemote job page, with matched and missing skills.
Every check shows pass, warning or fail for free, with a fix tip on every core check. Premium adds the evidence behind each flag, a fix for every one, and your match score on every job page.
How it works
Upload, read your score, fix, rescan
-
1
Upload your PDF
We pull the text out the same way an ATS does. If we cannot read a line, the ATS cannot either.
-
2
Read your report
One score from 0 to 100, a score per category, and every check marked pass, warning or fail.
-
3
Fix the fails and rescan
Edit your resume and upload it again. The rules are fixed, so the score only moves when your resume changes.

What the number means

When the score is not enough
The checker finds the issues. A recruiter fixes the words.
Software can tell you a bullet has no number in it. It cannot tell you which number would make a hiring manager call you.

From the job board side
How ATS software works at remote companies
500 to 1,000 applications per remote role
Location stops limiting the pool, so recruiters lean on ATS search harder.
DailyRemote indexes thousands of remote job posts every month, so we see which applicant tracking systems remote companies run. Greenhouse and Lever dominate at remote-first startups. Ashby has spread fast through the same crowd. Larger remote employers tend to sit on Workday. Each one parses your resume into a candidate profile the moment you apply.
Most advice gets one thing wrong. These systems do not auto-reject 75% of resumes. That number traces back to a misread survey. In Greenhouse, Lever and Ashby a human makes every rejection.
The real filter is quieter. Nobody reads a thousand applications. Recruiters search and sort inside the ATS by the parsed fields: titles, skills, dates, location. A resume that parsed badly has empty fields. It stays in the database and stops appearing when a recruiter searches for "React" or sorts by years of experience. That has the same effect as a rejection.
So clean parsing matters more than keyword stuffing. Workday is the strictest parser and often asks you to confirm the parsed fields mid-application. If Workday has ever scrambled your work history into the wrong boxes, you watched a parse failure happen live. Other systems fail the same way, in silence.
The 45 checks cover what breaks parsing and what recruiters scan for once your file is open. Run the check, fix the fails, then apply.

Questions
ATS resume checker FAQ
What is an ATS resume checker?
An ATS resume checker reads your resume the way applicant tracking software does and scores how well it parses. Ours runs 45 checks in 11 categories and returns a 0-100 score with a pass or fail result for each check. It is free and needs no signup.
What is an ATS, and why does my resume need to pass it?
An ATS, or applicant tracking system, is the software companies use to collect and sort job applications. It splits your resume into fields such as titles, skills and dates. Recruiters search those fields to decide who to read. A resume that parses badly rarely shows up in those searches.
Is this ATS checker free?
Yes. The score, every category score and the pass or fail result for all 45 checks are free, with no signup, and you can rescan after every edit. Premium adds the evidence behind each flag, a fix for every one, a PDF report and your match score on every job page.
How do I check my resume against an ATS?
Upload your resume as a PDF and read the parse results. The tool extracts your text with the same method an ATS uses, so anything it cannot read is invisible to the ATS too. The report marks each problem. Rescan after every edit.
Is a 75 ATS score good?
A 75 is a decent score with room left. On our scale, 80 and above is strong, 60 to 79 means a handful of checks fail, and below 60 means parsing or content problems are likely costing you interviews. At 75, fixing two or three failed checks usually pushes you past 80.
How do I get an ATS score above 90?
Clear every failed check and most warnings. In practice that means a single-column layout, real selectable text, standard section headings, parseable date ranges, contact details at the top, and bullets with numbers in them. Scores above 90 come from clean parsing plus strong content.
Can an ATS read PDF files?
Yes, modern applicant tracking systems read text-based PDFs well. Problems come from scanned PDFs, which contain an image instead of text, and from multi-column layouts that scramble the reading order. The checker measures how much of your PDF parses as text.
What file formats do you support?
PDF only, up to 7MB. PDF keeps your layout identical on every machine and is what most applicant tracking systems expect. Export to PDF from Google Docs or Word before you upload.
What happens to my resume after I upload it?
We extract the text and delete the PDF. It never reaches our storage. We keep the extracted text so your report stays available and so it can power match scores on job pages. Signed in, it stays on your account until you delete it from your report. Signed out, it expires after seven days. Your resume is never shared with employers and never used for training.
Can I check my resume against a specific job?
Yes. The same resume you scan here gets a match score on every job page on DailyRemote, with matched requirements, missing skills and gaps before you apply. That works across every live remote job we list, with no per-job paste and no scan limit.
What does the $59 expert resume review add?
A senior tech recruiter reads your resume line by line and sends a 14-dimension analysis, before and after rewrites you can paste in, and an action plan ranked by impact. It is delivered within 5 business days with a full money-back guarantee. Run the free ATS check first, then send the same PDF.
