Why us, why now?

​The Manager, Business Development & Engagement leads customer engagement, account management, and business development activities across the Career Exploration Services (CES) portfolio. The role is responsible for implementing sales and growth strategies that increase product adoption, customer retention, revenue generation, and market expansion for products including Careers in Medicine (CiM) and VSLO. 

​ 

​The Manager oversees a team of client engagement professionals responsible for assigned territories and customer portfolios while maintaining responsibility for forecasting, pipeline management, sales operations, conference strategy, and customer relationship management. Working closely with Product, Operations, Marketing, and Analytics teams, the Manager ensures customer insights and market intelligence inform business and product decisions. 

How will you make an impact?

​​Sales Strategy Execution & Revenue Growth​:

• ​​Execute CES business development and sales strategies that support customer acquisition, retention, adoption, and revenue growth goals. 
• ​Translate organizational growth objectives into territory plans, account priorities, sales activities, and measurable performance outcomes. 
• ​Monitor sales performance and pipeline health, identifying opportunities and risks and implementing corrective actions as needed. 
• ​Partner with leadership to develop annual revenue projections, growth forecasts, and market expansion strategies. 
• ​Support growth of sponsorship, advertising, and partnership revenue opportunities across the CES portfolio.
• ​Develop territory strategies and customer segmentation approaches.  
• ​Establish revenue targets and performance expectations.  
• ​Monitor portfolio performance and adjust engagement strategies.  
• ​Evaluate market opportunities and emerging customer needs. 

​​Team Leadership & Territory Management​:

• ​​Supervise and develop a team of Client Engagement and Business Development staff responsible for assigned customer portfolios and geographic territories. 

• ​Establish performance expectations, account priorities, and customer engagement standards. 

• ​Provide coaching, mentoring, and professional development to ensure consistent execution of account management and sales practices. 

• ​Monitor territory performance and resource allocation to maximize customer success and business growth opportunities. 

• ​Conduct performance evaluations and support workforce planning activities.

​​Strategic Account Management & Customer Success​:

• ​​Oversee and provide guidance to support  institutional accounts and strategic customer relationships. 

• ​Support complex customer engagements, renewal discussions, escalations, and expansion opportunities. 

• ​Ensure customers receive consistent, high-quality support that drives adoption, retention, and satisfaction.

·       ​Review account plans, business reviews, customer success metrics, and engagement activities to maximize customer value. 

·       ​Identify emerging customer needs and opportunities that may influence future business or product investments. 

​​Market Development​:

• ​​Develop and execute conference, event, and outreach strategies that increase awareness and adoption of CES products and services. 

• ​Represent CES at industry conferences, constituent meetings, webinars, and stakeholder events. 

• ​Monitor market trends, competitive activity, customer needs, and industry developments to inform strategic planning. 

• ​Develop relationships with institutional leaders, advisors, specialty organizations, and external partners.

​​Sales Reporting, Advertising Support & Business Insights​:

• ​​Oversee Salesforce utilization, account documentation, pipeline management, forecasting, and sales reporting processes. 

• ​Develop and monitor key performance indicators related to customer engagement, revenue growth, adoption, and retention. 

• ​Collaborate with Product, Operations, Analytics, and Marketing teams to ensure customer feedback informs product enhancements and business priorities. 

• ​Support implementation of new products, features, and customer engagement initiatives. 

• ​Establish consistent processes, reporting standards, and operational practices that improve efficiency and accountability.

What you will bring to the role:

Required Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Marketing, Communications, Higher Education, Public Administration, or related field.
• 8-10 years of related work experience
• 3-5 years of supervisory experience
• ​ Experience managing customer relationships, account portfolios, or business development programs. 
• Experience supervising staff and managing performance. 
• Experience developing sales forecasts and business growth plans. 
• Experience using Salesforce or similar CRM platforms. 
• Experience presenting products and services to executive-level stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Higher education, healthcare, association, nonprofit, or educational technology experience.  
• Experience managing territory-based sales or customer success teams. 
• Experience supporting sponsorship, advertising, or partnership revenue models.

Compensation Grade Range

Multiple factors are taken into consideration to arrive at the final hourly rate/annual salary to be offered to the selected candidate. Factors may include, but are not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the role, the selected candidate’s work experience, education and training, as well as internal equity, market, and business considerations.

If a bachelor’s degree is required, related work experience may be substituted in some positions.  One year of college course work at an accredited institution is equivalent to one year of related work experience.
