What would you do if every email and SMS a student and their family receives from us was yours to own?

On a typical day you might lock a student and guardian welcome with Academics in the morning, build the incomplete-onboarding branch in HubSpot after lunch, and rewrite a class-change SMS before end of day so nobody gets two different rooms.

About Contour

We started in 2020 with a handful of students and a belief that great education should not be out of reach. Today we operate across three brands with 8,000+ students and 425+ team members: roughly 100 in India and 325 onshore in Australia. This role sits in Marketing, which owns student and guardian communications, events, and the brand.

You shape how families hear from Contour.

About This Role

You own every external email and SMS sent to students and guardians, from enrolment through re-engagement. You report to the Chief Marketing Officer. They own marketing strategy and brand. Everything else on the communications calendar is yours.

The standard here is different in two specific ways. First, the way you write: a student welcome, a guardian welcome, and a 160-character class SMS all land differently, on purpose. Second, you do not send what you are given if the information is missing or unclear, or it contradicts itself. You ask, then you chase until you get an answer. Then you send.

You start solo.

This work currently sits across other people. You make it a dedicated function, and you turn one-off sends into journeys that run without someone watching them. By the end of month three, you will have mapped the communications calendar across enrolments, onboarding, class updates, events, reminders, and re-engagement, shipped the first automated enrolment-to-first-class journeys in HubSpot (student versus guardian, automated versus manual), and have engagement reporting the CMO can read without asking. The work you do in those first months will still be in use three years from now.

Where the work lives

  • HubSpot: email, SMS, and lifecycle automation live here. Keeping journeys, lists, and the calendar current in HubSpot is how Academics and Digital Operations see what’s going out without having to ask you. Digital Operations manages the enrolment system and HubSpot itself; you own what gets sent, to whom, and when.

What You Will Do

  • Own all external email and SMS to students and guardians. Enrolments, onboarding, class updates, events, reminders, re-engagement, and academic information. The right message to the right person, on time.

  • Split student and guardian communications on purpose. Guardians get the logistics that matter. Students get what they need to show up prepared. Every send doesn’t go to both.

  • Build automated journeys in HubSpot rather than one-off sends. Enrolment through first week of class is the first one you build: welcome and onboarding chase, then three-day reminder, morning-of-class SMS, followed with post-class check-in. You decide what is automated and what still needs a human.

  • Work with Academics and Digital Operations on what needs to be said and when. Academics can change class information at short notice. You verify, you tell the people who need to be across it, and you stop any scheduled send that would now be wrong.

  • Run a large calendar. Roughly 100 student and guardian communications a month, across programs. You keep owners and approvals visible, and know what depends on what so two sends do not collide and create confusion.

  • Catch a bad brief before it goes out. If a draft says "there may be a room change" and does not name the class, the time, or the room it changes to, you do not send it. You chase the missing piece, ensuring only complete information goes out.

  • Track the right metrics. You track open, click, and completion rates well enough that the CMO reads them without asking you to explain them

If a better tool exists for something we are doing manually, make the case and we will back it.

Requirements

What You Need

  • 4-6 years in lifecycle, CRM, or retention marketing, owning email and SMS end to end. This is a strong individual-contributor seat, not a people-manager seat.

  • Writing that is clear and human. A student welcome and a guardian welcome land differently, on purpose. So does a 160-character class SMS.

  • Audience judgment: you can distinguish what everyone needs from what only few people need, and what is transactional from what is engagement.

  • Organisation at volume. You can run a crowded calendar without letting a send slip or duplicate.

  • Automation thinking. You can describe a HubSpot-style journey: trigger, properties, branches, delays, exits, and the safeguards that stop the wrong person getting the wrong message.

  • Comfortable working across the India and Australia time difference.

Nice to Have

  • Hands-on HubSpot (email, SMS, workflows)

  • EdTech, tutoring, or another student-and-family audience

  • Experience in an international or multi-country company

The Kind of People Who Thrive Here

The people who do well here see a gap and close it without being asked. They build processes that run independently. They give direct feedback and expect it back. When something is not working, they say so and bring a point of view on how to fix it.

Contour's current cluster heads started as team leads. The path to grow is real here.

What good looks like

  • Right audience, right channel: students and guardians do not get the same email by default.

  • Journeys, not blasts: the enrolment-to-first-class path runs as a system, with a chase if onboarding is incomplete.

  • Nothing contradictory goes out: when class details change, scheduled sends are stopped or rewritten before anyone is confused.

  • You chase the brief: a copy that's missing something, or just vague, does not ship .

Benefits

Fully remote, anywhere in India. Compensation is competitive and benchmarked to the role and your experience, and we discuss it openly early in the process. From application to offer: a short screen, a technical assessment, a culture conversation with our People team, and a final interview with the Chief Marketing Officer in about four weeks.

Apply with a CV and one paragraph on a lifecycle journey you built: who it was for, what triggered it, what you wrote, and what you refused to send until you had the facts.
