Position Summary

Rewiring America is in a phase of rapid growth, and we seek an entrepreneurial Director of Implementation Operations to join our Community Implementation team. This position reports to the Senior Director of Community Engagement in the near-term, and the forthcoming Vice President of Community Implementation in the long-term.

Rewiring America, as part of the Power Forward Communities coalition, was recently awarded a Greenhouse Gas Reduction Fund grant to develop a program to help households in low-income and disadvantaged communities go electric. This program will reduce the upfront cost of electrification through market-building and fundraising, and finance the rest through low interest rate loans. The program will offer a series of services to households, including community navigators, software tools, a network of qualified contractors, standardized equipment packages, and quality installation procedures.

Developing and launching this program is a significant effort that requires effective project management, tracking and communicating changes to our program strategy, and tight coordination across many teams at Rewiring America. In partnership with the Vice President, the Director of Implementation Operations will ensure effective operation of the cross-functional community implementation work. This will include running meetings that facilitate cross-team collaboration, project-managing the workstreams required to launch and run the program, and documenting the ever-evolving program design - so that the dozens of people working on the program across every team at the organization share a consistent mental model of the strategy.

This role requires a unique blend of skills. You're a wizard with project management tools, processes, and systems thinking. You juggle all the balls while hopping on one foot twirling a hula hoop, never drop a detail, and find it fun. You do this while possessing a deep understanding and passion for people. You are both a Gantt chart virtuoso and a people-reader that inspires collaboration and team engagement to achieve our goals. You bring expertise in finding the processes that work to manage complex programs across multiple teams.

Requirements

What You'll Do

As the Director of Implementation Operations, you will manage implementation operations through a combination of strategic planning, project management, and documentation. This role serves as a pivotal bridge between our multidisciplinary teams spanning the public and private sectors, including communities, creative, growth, research, product and engineering, and policy. This role is the glue that holds these teams together and ensures that everyone is working towards common goals and a shared vision.

Strategic Planning:

  • Working with the Vice President of Community Implementation, fuse high level strategic goals with tactical priorities to create ambitious but achievable program timelines and milestones.
  • Establish team systems and processes that align with organizational planning for a quarterly strategic planning cycle, goal setting and performance evaluation.
  • Develop a communications strategy to ensure that staff who are working on the program, all other staff at Rewiring America, and external stakeholders stay apprised of the most up-to-date program strategy.
  • Lead the team in assigning drivers to components of the program design, and effectively communicate who makes decisions and how.
  • Facilitate leadership and decisional meetings, ensuring cross-functional and executive alignment with program implementation prioritization, dependencies and trade-offs.

Performance & Project Management:

  • Develop and maintain a robust project management framework with clear dashboards and reporting mechanisms.
  • Track progress against goals and timelines using that project management framework, and keep teams accountable.
  • Identify key decisions and who must be involved in the decision-making process. Once decisions are made, communicate the result to everyone working on the program.
  • Track dependencies between workstreams, ensuring that handoffs happen at the right time and that the project plan reflects downstream impacts of changes in timeline.
  • Plan and run effective meetings that facilitate cross-team collaboration on program design and that enable tight feedback loops between local program deployment/design of our standard national program offering.

Documentation:

  • Continuously document key decisions made and updates to the program design, including both updates from local discovery calls with community partners and decisions made about the development of our standard national program offering.
  • Work with the Product team to create a system for documenting our program design and updating the documentation as our thinking evolves, so that everyone working on the program has a shared and up-to-date understanding of our strategy.
