Engineering Manager
Full-Time | Engineering | Atlanta, GA (In-Person Preferred) or Remote with Regular Travel to Atlanta
About the Role
Swordpoint is looking for an Engineering Manager to run our engineering team day to day. The team is roughly ten people split across the United States and Brazil, including interns, and it is growing. You will own the delivery cadence: what is in flight, who is on it, when it ships, and what is blocking it. You will run one-on-ones, give people real feedback, and be the person an engineer comes to when something is not working.
This role works very closely with our business operations team. A lot of what we build is internal: automation, tooling, and the data plumbing that lets a small company operate like a much larger one. You will sit between the people who need those tools and the engineers who build them, and you will make sure the work is scoped, sequenced, and finished. You will also work with the CTO and, if we hire one, a VP of Engineering on standards, hiring, and the modernization of our existing systems.
This is a hands-on management role, not a coordination role. You should be able to review a pull request, sit in an architecture discussion and hold your own, and step into the code when the team needs it. We want someone who is genuinely excited about AI, both in what we ship and in how the team works, and who will make AI-assisted development a normal part of how engineers here operate.
Key Responsibilities
• Run the delivery cadence for the engineering team: planning, standups, sprint or milestone reviews, and honest status to leadership
• Manage and develop engineers and interns across the United States and Brazil, including one-on-ones, feedback, growth plans, and performance conversations
• Work closely with business operations to scope, prioritize, and deliver internal tools and automation
• Own code review quality, testing discipline, release management, on-call, and incident response for the team
• Participate in hiring: interview loops, take-home reviews, and a clear point of view on who meets the bar
• Break modernization work on existing systems into increments the team can ship alongside the roadmap
• Make AI-assisted development a standard practice on the team, with clear norms for how it is used and reviewed
• Remove blockers early and communicate risk with context and proposed options, not just the problem
• Keep practical documentation current: runbooks, decision logs, and onboarding material for new engineers
Required Qualifications
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a closely related technical field, or equivalent professional experience
• 5+ years in software engineering, including at least 2 years managing or leading engineers
• Experience running delivery for a small team with competing priorities and real customers waiting on the output
• Hands-on technical depth: you can review code across the stack and evaluate a design, and you have shipped production software yourself
• Experience working with non-technical stakeholders to turn a business need into a scoped piece of engineering work
• Genuine enthusiasm for AI, with hands-on use of modern AI development tooling and a view on where it helps and where it does not
• Strong written and verbal communication, including the ability to give direct feedback well
• Comfort navigating ambiguity and shifting priorities in a fast-paced, scaling environment
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience managing distributed or nearshore engineers, particularly in Latin America
• Experience at a company small enough that you had to build the process yourself rather than inherit it
• Experience with modernization or migration of an existing codebase while continuing to ship
• Engineering experience at a top-tier technical organization such as Meta, Google, Amazon, Apple, Microsoft, Netflix, or Stripe, or at a leading AI-native company
• Familiarity with home services, retail, field service, warranty, logistics, maritime, or insurance industries
