Position Overview

Bering Finishes is seeking a Director of Business Development to drive strategic growth across key target markets. This role is responsible for developing relationships, influencing specifications, generating new opportunities, and growing strategic accounts that result in profitable revenue growth and achievement of annual bookings targets.

The Director of Business Development serves as an ambassador for the Bering brand and will develop relationships with owners, developers, operators, architects, interior designers, flooring contractors, dealers, distributors, and other key decision-makers throughout the flooring industry.

Candidates must reside in and maintain an active professional network within one of the following markets:

  • Oregon/Washington
  • Idaho
  • Arizona/Las Vegas
  • Tennessee
  • Montana/Wyoming
  • Texas
  • Michigan
  • Ohio

The ideal candidate is a proven flooring industry professional with experience representing a flooring manufacturer or distributer. They possess an established network of industry relationships and a successful track record of leveraging those relationships to generate opportunities, influence specifications, and drive profitable growth.

They are highly organized, relationship-focused, self-motivated, and comfortable engaging executive-level decision-makers while representing Bering's products and brand at the highest level.

Key Responsibilities

Business Development & Strategic Growth

  • Develop and execute business development strategies aligned with company growth objectives.
  • Build and maintain relationships with developers, end users, operators, architects, interior designers, flooring contractors, dealers, and commercial flooring decision-makers.
  • Generate new business opportunities across multifamily, student housing, hospitality, senior living, commercial, dealer, and the residential/builder market segments.
  • Develop and maintain a qualified pipeline of opportunities that supports annual revenue goals.
  • Create, manage, and execute strategic account plans.
  • Identify specification opportunities and position Bering products with key influencers and decision-makers.
  • Collaborate with leadership, product, and operations teams to support market expansion initiatives.
  • Maintain accurate opportunity forecasting and pipeline reporting in company CRM.
  • Differentiate Bering through superior product knowledge, technical expertise, and consultative selling. 

Relationship Development

  • Establish trusted advisor relationships with key clients, partners, and industry influencers.
  • Conduct regular face-to-face meetings, presentations, product demonstrations, and networking activities.
  • Expand existing client relationships while identifying new opportunities for growth.
  • Represent Bering at industry events, conferences, trade shows, and association meetings.
  • Promote Bering's products, innovations, and competitive advantages within target markets.

Market Leadership

  • Monitor market trends, customer preferences, and competitive activity.
  • Identify new growth opportunities and emerging market segments.
  • Provide market intelligence and customer feedback to leadership and product development teams.
  • Support strategic marketing initiatives, product launches, and brand awareness efforts.
  • Help position Bering as a preferred flooring manufacturer within targeted markets.

Qualifications

Required Experience

  • 5+ years of business development, sales, account management, or related experience within the flooring industry.
  • Previous experience as a flooring manufacturer's representative, flooring sales representative, strategic account manager, or similar flooring industry role is required.
  • Existing network of relationships within the flooring industry and demonstrated ability to leverage those relationships to generate business opportunities.
  • Established relationships with developers, end users, operators, architects, interior designers, flooring contractors, dealers and commercial flooring decision-makers.
  • Demonstrated success selling flooring products, resilient flooring solutions, technical selling, building materials, or related products.
  • Proven ability to influence specifications and drive product adoption through consultative, relationship-based and technical selling.
  • Demonstrated success developing new business opportunities and growing existing accounts.
  • Experience leading complex sales processes involving multiple stakeholders and executive-level decision-makers.
  • Must reside in and maintain an active professional network within one of the following markets:

Technical Requirements

  • Strong understanding of one or more target market segments:
    • Multifamily Housing
    • Student Housing
    • Hospitality
    • Senior Living
    • Commercial Interiors
    • Residential/Retail/Builder
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Experience with CRM and sales pipeline management tools.
  • Ability to prepare presentations, business cases, and sales forecasts.

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Marketing, Construction Management or related field preferred or equivalent combination of flooring sales experience and demonstrated success. 
  • Active involvement in industry associations, trade groups, or professional organizations.
  • Experience working within regional or national sales territories.
  • Experience influencing product specifications through Architecture & Design (A&D) relationships.
  • Experience with dealer, distributor, and channel partner development.
