About the role 

Bayer Vegetable Seeds is seeking a commercially driven Business Development Manager to lead growth across South Australia. Based remotely within SA, this exciting field-based role combines sales, market development, customer relationship management and agronomic engagement to deliver sustainable growth across our vegetable seed portfolio. 

Working closely with growers, distributors and industry partners, you will drive territory performance through strategic account management, commercial trials, product positioning and market development activities. The territory spans South Australia's key vegetable-producing regions, including protected cropping operations around Virginia and Angle Vale, as well as open-field production areas across Waikerie, Murray Bridge, Pinnaroo and surrounding regions. 

This role offers significant autonomy, a strong customer focus and the opportunity to work with industry-leading vegetable genetics while collaborating with a passionate ANZ commercial team. 

Role Responsibilities 

• Develop and execute a territory business plan aligned with agreed sales, revenue and market share objectives. 
• Identify, develop and convert new business opportunities while expanding existing customer relationships across South Australia. 
• Build trusted partnerships with growers, distributors, nurseries, consultants and other key industry stakeholders. 
• Manage territory forecasts, account plans, sales pipelines and commercial activities to support profitable growth. 
• Conduct regular travel throughout South Australia's key vegetable growing regions to strengthen customer relationships, identify growth opportunities and provide exceptional support to growers and channel partners. 
• Plan, establish and assess commercial trials and demonstration activities to support market development and variety adoption. 
• Provide technical and agronomic support to customers, helping position Bayer's vegetable seed portfolio to achieve optimal commercial outcomes. 
• Support the successful introduction and launch of new vegetable varieties through field engagement, product positioning and customer education. 
• Gather and communicate market intelligence, including customer feedback, industry trends and competitor activity. 
• Work collaboratively with Sales, Market Development, Marketing, Customer Service, Supply Chain and Portfolio teams to deliver outstanding customer experiences. 
• Ensure all activities are conducted in accordance with Bayer policies, stewardship standards and HSE requirements. 

Required Experience & Qualifications 

• Degree qualification in Agronomy, Agriculture, Horticulture, Crop Science, Plant Science or a related discipline. 
• Demonstrated experience in sales, business development, market development or agronomy within agriculture or horticulture. 
• Strong sales, negotiation and relationship-building skills with a proven ability to influence outcomes and deliver commercial results. 
• Excellent communication and conflict resolution skills, with the ability to build credibility and trust with customers and stakeholders. 
• Experience managing customer accounts, sales pipelines and territory plans. 
• A genuine interest in vegetable production, agronomy and the broader agricultural industry. 
• Exposure to field trials, crop assessments or market development activities is highly regarded. 
• Experience within vegetable seeds, horticulture or agricultural inputs will be highly regarded. 
• Self-motivated with the ability to work independently in a remote, customer-facing environment. 
• Current Australian Driver's Licence and willingness to travel extensively across South Australia.
