The Account Manager is responsible for building and growing a high-impact merchant territory across the Western U.S. In this remote role, you will develop new business, strengthen strategic customer relationships, and connect merchants, printers, end users, and internal experts to bring pressure-sensitive products and programs to market.

Key accountabilities include identifying and developing new business opportunities, guiding products and programs from concept through launch, and serving as a trusted connection among end customers, printers, merchant customers, and within Mactac/Spinnaker. Additionally, this role will also grow an assigned customer base through training, business reviews, customer and end-user visits, and other sales activities aligned with segment and company objectives. Working closely with an inside Customer Solutions Specialist and a Customer Service Representative, the Account Manager coordinates customer programs, manages account activity, and ensures administrative needs such as order and complaint entry are handled effectively.

Responsibilities include:

  • Establishing, nurturing, and maintaining strong and effective relationships with key Merchant contacts, including Merchant inside and outside sales, customer service, buyers, and middle management teams.
  • Forecasting, budgeting, and growing the territory guided by corporate objectives.
  • Searching out and closing opportunities that fit the segment and Company business strategy and capabilities, and engaging support from the appropriate internal personnel, including R&D, Technical, Marketing, Customer Service, etc.
  • Collaborating and coordinating Customer selling and support activities, including the management of repeat and program business, with the assigned Customer Solutions Specialist.
  • Communicating inventory demand changes as appropriate.
  • Coordinating negotiation and resolution between the Customer and the Company when issues escalate and engaging the appropriate personnel, including Quality, Marketing, Customer Service, Technical, and Finance.
  • Initiating, coordinating, and conducting Customer sales presentations on product training, new products, capabilities, promotions, etc.
  • Maintaining working knowledge of Company products, programs, pricing structures, and capabilities.
  • Coordinating and participating in Customer business review meetings as required.
  • Attending approved key Customer manager meetings and trade shows, representing Company and educating attendees on products, programs, and the value of Mactac/Spinnaker.
  • Staying abreast of both Customer and competitor activities and offerings, and reporting to peers and Marketing information that may be relevant to the strategic business, including selling and distribution strategies, locations, acquisitions, price points, and organizational structures.
  • Reviewing Customer stock programs and suggesting improvements and adjustments based on market changes.
  • Assisting customers with selling tools and promotions.
  • Making joint calls to printers and OEMs to train, motivate, and build confidence in the pressure-sensitive market.
  • Understanding the strengths and weaknesses of competition.
  • Producing and submitting required reports in a thorough and timely manner.
  • Managing expenses per Company guidelines.
  • Updating and maintaining CRM and pipeline with accurate information in a timely fashion.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED required. Bachelor's degree in business, communications, sales management, engineering or a related discipline is highly preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years prior experience in sales, account management, business development, marketing or a related field is required.
  • Prior experience within the paper, printing, packaging and/or labeling industries is preferred.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office software.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both in writing and verbally, with people of various educational and technical backgrounds, both inside and outside the company.
  • Exceptional problem solving and analytical skills with the ability to convey / document findings to audiences ranging from shop floor to C-Suite.
  • Demonstrated ability to think creatively, solve complex problems, and facilitate problem-solving with others.
  • Must possess a valid U.S. driver's license and have an acceptable driving record.

 

Scope:

  • Management Responsibilities Level: Individual Contributor
  • Reporting to: Director, Merchant/Sheet Business
  • Location: Western S.-based remote role with responsibility for an established territory and the potential to expand into surrounding regions. Southern California is preferred; candidates should live near a major airport to support customer travel.
  • Physical Requirements: Must be able to meet the physical requirements of travel by automobile, airplane, train, etc. Must be able to lift cartons, displays, sales collateral as required for trade shows and sales calls (up to 25lbs).
  • Travel: Up to 50%
