The Virtual Assistant will create listing drafts for eBay and Whatnot by researching product details and using provided photos. They are responsible for ensuring listings are accurate and ready for the owner's final review and publication.
Company Overview
The client has been a full-time reseller of toys and collectibles for 6–7 years, operating primarily on eBay with Whatnot as a secondary platform. The business focuses on hard goods — mostly action figures and collectibles (e.g. Marvel Legends) — and has been steadily growing. It has largely been a one-person operation, with occasional help from the owner's wife.
Role Overview
As inventory volume has grown, the owner can no longer keep up with creating listings at the pace he'd like. He's looking for a Virtual Assistant to take the listing-drafting work off his plate: turning product photos into ready-to-review listing drafts on eBay and Whatnot, so he can focus on sourcing, fulfillment, and growing the business. He will always do a final review and post the listings himself, so the goal is drafts that are as close to 'ready to launch' as possible.
Key Responsibilities
• Turn product photos sent by the client into listing drafts on eBay and Whatnot.
• Research and fill in accurate item details — title, brand, franchise, character, theme/family, and other item specifics — using tools like Google Lens and comparable/competitor listings, supplemented by information the client provides.
• Write eBay titles that follow the client's standardized style (e.g. 'Marvel Legends, Storm, action figure'), adapting to his preferences over time.
• Build out full eBay listings with the level of detail eBay's category/item-specifics fields require (theme, franchise, character family, etc.) so listings surface correctly in buyer searches.
• Build simpler Whatnot listings, which need far less detail — primarily an accurate title.
• Leave all listings in draft form for the client's final review, edits, and posting — not publish listings directly.
Skills & Tools
• Comfortable navigating eBay's listing tools and item-specifics/category fields; Whatnot experience a plus but not required.
• Resourceful at identifying unfamiliar items using tools like Google Lens and by cross-referencing similar/competitor listings.
• Detail-oriented and consistent — able to learn and replicate a standardized title/listing style over time.
• Comfortable working with toys, collectibles, and pop-culture/franchise items (Marvel, etc.); no prior fandom knowledge required, just willingness to learn.
• Reliable, reasonable turnaround on batches of photos sent by the client (same-day/next-day, not same-hour).
Logistics
• Starts at 10 hours/week, with potential to grow to 20–30+ hours/week as volume increases.
