Job Overview
We are seeking a Senior Staff Commodity Manager, Electrical to own the sourcing, cost, and supply continuity of Mainspring's electrical and power electronics commodities as we scale Linear Generator production. This senior individual contributor will set commodity strategy, develop suppliers and contract manufacturers, lead negotiations, and partner closely with Engineering, NPI, Quality, and Operations. The role demands technical depth, commercial strength, and sound judgment balancing cost, risk, and schedule in a fast-moving, compliance-driven environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Own commodity strategy for the assigned electrical portfolio (power conversion, PCBAs, connectors, cables and harnesses, sensors, power distribution, chassis, electromechanical assemblies): make/buy, preferred suppliers, risk tiering, and best total cost across price, lead time, quality, and working capital
  • Identify, qualify, and onboard USMCA-compliant US and Mexico contract manufacturers, from RFQ through ramp
  • Support sourcing strategy for the AC-to-DC product transition, including lead time analysis, risk buys, and production readiness
  • Lead DFM, DFX, and should-cost work with Engineering from early NPI
  • Plan and deliver cost-down programs tied to the product cost roadmap, reporting progress with each supplier on a regular cadence
  • Lead single point of failure mitigation, supplier risk assessments, and business continuity planning
  • Negotiate pricing and contracts from R&D quick-turn through long-term volume agreements
  • Partner with SCM Program Managers and tactical purchasing for clean R&D-to-production transitions
  • Run supplier business reviews and improve quality, delivery, capacity, and cost with Quality and SQE
  • Drive supplier selection and present sourcing recommendations to leadership with clear cost, risk, and schedule trade-offs
  • Monitor component pricing, market trends, and regulatory and tariff changes, adjusting sourcing plans proactively
  • Mentor junior team members and contribute to team standard work

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Electrical Engineering, Supply Chain, or equivalent
  • Minimum of 15+ years across electrical engineering, operations, and supply chain, with hands-on sourcing and supplier management for electronics commodities; R&D and NPI experience required
  • Deep knowledge of power electronics, industrial electrical components, PCBAs (SMT, through-hole, mixed), connectors, and cable assemblies
  • Proven supplier evaluation, contract negotiation, and global supply base management
  • Experience onboarding contract manufacturers for electromechanical assemblies
  • Demonstrated cost reduction results: DFM, should-cost, multi-source qualification, BOM optimization
  • Comfort in fast-paced R&D and ramp environments with shifting requirements
  • Familiarity with FEOC, IRA/ITC, USMCA, and UL/IEC compliance
  • Strong analytical skills; proficient with Excel and MRP/ERP systems
  • Travel up to 35% (US and Mexico; occasional international)

Nice to Have
  • Energy storage, battery, or distributed power generation experience
  • Familiarity with UL 9540, UL 1973, UL 508a, or IEC 62619
  • Hardware startup or high-growth manufacturing experience
  • Experience with US and Mexico manufacturing footprints
  • Working knowledge of IRA battery sourcing requirements and FEOC country-of-origin tracing
  • Hands-on circuit design, power supply design, or PCBA layout experience
  • Lean or Six Sigma certification
