AI Summary

The Senior Director will lead the end-to-end delivery of first-of-kind GPU and high-performance computing clusters, transforming new infrastructure architectures into production-ready solutions. They are responsible for establishing rigorous QA/QC frameworks, managing program milestones, and driving cross-functional collaboration to ensure clusters are delivered on time and at scale.

Job Type: Full-Time | Location: Remote | Department: Network | Reporting to:  Vice President, Cloud | Work Location Type: #remote #hybrid

IREN is a vertically integrated AI Cloud provider, delivering large-scale data centers and GPU clusters for AI training and inference. IREN’s platform is underpinned by its expansive portfolio of grid-connected land and power in renewable-rich regions across North America, Europe and APAC.

With 100% renewable energy, we build, own and operate our data centers and take pride in being at the forefront of sustainable solutions for the ever-evolving applications of high-performance compute. We believe that human progress is invaluable, but it should be done in the right way – responsibly, sustainably and having a positive impact on the communities we operate in.

The Senior Director of HPC Delivery will lead the organization responsible for delivering first-of-kind (FOAK) GPU and high-performance computing clusters and transforming new infrastructure architectures into production-ready, repeatable solutions. This leader owns the end-to-end integration and delivery of the first production implementations of new GPU cluster architectures across compute, GPU, CPU, InfiniBand and Ethernet/RoCE networking, storage integration, management infrastructure, provisioning, automation, observability, and operational tooling.

This role operates at the intersection of architecture, engineering, infrastructure delivery, quality, and operations. The organization will prove that new cluster designs work at production scale, resolve cross-domain integration issues, establish the golden build, and create the documentation, automation, quality controls, and operating procedures that enable the HPC Deployment at Scale organization to reproduce the design across many deployments.

Delivering clusters on time and with exceptional quality is fundamental to success. The Senior Director will establish the milestones, critical paths, quality gates, acceptance criteria, metrics, and accountability required to meet committed delivery dates without compromising engineering rigor or production readiness.
  • 15+ years of experience in infrastructure, HPC, cloud, data center, networking, or large-scale distributed systems, including 8+ years leading highly technical engineering organizations.
  • Demonstrated experience delivering complex, large-scale infrastructure programs against aggressive schedules and demanding quality requirements.
  • Strong understanding of GPU-based computing architectures and high-performance networking, particularly InfiniBand and/or Ethernet/RoCE.
  • Broad technical knowledge across compute, networking, storage, Linux, firmware, drivers, provisioning, infrastructure automation, and management systems.
  • Experience establishing QA/QC, validation, commissioning, burn-in, and production acceptance processes for complex infrastructure.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional programs and solve system-level issues spanning hardware and software domains.
  • Lead the end-to-end delivery of FOAK GPU/HPC clusters from architecture handoff through installation, commissioning, integration, validation, burn-in, production acceptance, and handoff to scaled deployment. Own execution across the complete cluster stack and drive resolution of complex issues spanning hardware, firmware, GPU, CPU, networking, storage, operating systems, drivers, provisioning, and management tooling.
  • Establish a rigorous QA/QC framework throughout the delivery lifecycle. Define measurable quality gates and acceptance criteria for physical installation, cabling and optics, InfiniBand and RoCE fabrics, compute and GPU health, firmware and BIOS, operating systems and drivers, storage connectivity, management systems, configuration compliance, automation, observability, performance, and reliability. Build quality into each stage of delivery rather than relying on final inspection.
  • Own delivery predictability. Establish program milestones, critical paths, dependencies, readiness criteria, and executive reporting for each FOAK program. Identify technical, site, supply-chain, vendor, schedule, and quality risks early; assign clear ownership; and drive mitigation or recovery plans before they affect committed capacity dates.
  • Partner closely with architecture and engineering teams to translate new designs into deployable systems. Provide rapid feedback when designs encounter real-world integration, manufacturing, quality, reliability, or operational constraints. Drive design-for-deployability, design-for-quality, and design-for-operability so that new architectures can move successfully from first implementation to scaled production.
  • Convert successful FOAK deployments into a complete golden build and deployment package. This includes reference architecture, bills of materials, physical and logical topology, rack and cabling standards, network configurations, firmware and software compatibility, provisioning workflows, configuration standards, QA/QC procedures, automated validation, burn-in, performance benchmarks, troubleshooting procedures, defect-remediation playbooks, and production acceptance criteria.
  • Create documentation that enables another organization to reproduce the cluster without depending on tribal knowledge from the FOAK team. Documentation must explain not only what to build, but how to build it, inspect it, validate it, troubleshoot it, and determine that it is ready for production.
  • Establish a formal NPI-to-Scale handoff process with measurable readiness criteria. Ensure the Deployment at Scale organization has the engineering package, automation, training, quality standards, escalation paths, and operational knowledge required to repeat the build consistently across sites and regions. Remain engaged during early scaled deployments to resolve systemic issues and improve the golden build.
  • Drive an automation-first approach to deployment and quality. Partner with software, platform, network, and infrastructure engineering teams to automate provisioning, configuration, pre-flight checks, topology validation, hardware and firmware validation, QA/QC, performance testing, and production acceptance. Use deployment data to identify recurring defects and systematically eliminate sources of rework.
  • Build and lead a multidisciplinary organization spanning HPC/GPU infrastructure, networking, cluster integration, systems engineering, automation, quality engineering, validation, and technical program delivery.
  • Create a culture of urgency, engineering rigor, accountability, documentation, quality, and continuous improvement.
