Role Summary

We’re seeking an experienced sales professional to help grow one of the nation’s fastest-growing public sector fintech firms. As a Senior Business Development Officer (Senior BDO), you’ll be instrumental in expanding our national footprint across Wisconsin, Minnesota, Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dakota, Kansas, Iowa and Missouri. This role is designed for a proven seller who understands the public-sector market and can independently build and convert a territory. You’ll own your territory and sales pipeline from prospecting through close, using your market knowledge and experience selling to public entities to identify opportunities, build trusted relationships with decision-makers, and drive new business and platform adoption. The ideal candidate brings an established track record of sales performance, understands how public entities evaluate and purchase solutions, and can operate with a high degree of independence and accountability. 


This position will report to the Chief Revenue Officer (CRO) and may be based in our Rochester, NY office or work remotely. The base salary range for this role is $130,000–$145,000, plus performance-based commission, with on-target earning potential significantly higher based on individual sales performance (details to be shared with finalist). Additional commission details will be shared with finalists. Travel is expected to be up to 25%.


Responsibilities

As a Senior BDO, you will:

  • Independently own the full sales cycle, from territory development and prospecting through discovery, product demonstrations, proposal development, negotiation, and close.
  • Develop and execute a territory strategy informed by market knowledge, public financial data, existing relationships, and an understanding of public-sector priorities and buying cycles.
  • Build and maintain a strong, qualified pipeline, independently prioritizing opportunities and focusing sales efforts where they are most likely to drive new business.
  • Build trusted relationships with senior decision-makers across public entities and higher education institutions, uncovering complex needs and effectively positioning three+one’s solutions against financial and operational priorities.
  • Identify and pursue new business opportunities across counties, cities, school districts, colleges, and universities.
  • Consistently meet or exceed pipeline and revenue goals, with clear accountability for territory performance.
  • Maintain an accurate forecast and provide leadership with clear visibility into pipeline health, opportunity progression, and expected results.
  • Maintain accurate, timely records of sales activities and opportunities in the CRM.
  • Leverage knowledge of the public-sector market, competitive landscape, and emerging trends to strengthen prospecting, client conversations, and territory strategy.
  • Manage all aspects of conference participation, from planning and engagement through post-event follow-up, to generate and advance opportunities.


Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree plus seven (7) years’ work experience; Master’s preferred.
  • Minimum five (5) years of relevant sales experience.
  • Demonstrated experience selling directly to local government, K-12, higher education, or other public-sector entities, with a strong understanding of public-sector buying processes, decision-makers, and sales cycles.
  • Experience in public finance, treasury management, banking, fintech, or other solutions supporting public-sector financial or administrative operations is preferred. 
  • Proven track record of meeting or exceeding sales quotas and independently closing new business.
  • Demonstrated ability to build and develop a territory, generate qualified pipeline, and move opportunities through the full sales cycle.
  • Experience building trusted relationships and selling to C-suite and senior executive decision-makers.
  • Demonstrated success in consultative sales, translating complex client needs into relevant solutions and business value.
  • Understanding of value-based sales methodologies is preferred.
