[Remote] Director of Engineering

The Job:

At Convoso, we’re building the future of lead generation contact centers. We’re looking for a Director of Software Engineering to lead teams responsible for building, scaling, and maintaining our customer-facing applications, APIs, internal systems, and data infrastructure.

This is a hands-on engineering leadership role focused on technical execution, team performance, architecture, scalability, and operational excellence, while driving the practical use of AI throughout Engineering to improve how we develop, deploy, and operate software.

What You'll Be Doing:

• Drive the adoption and day-to-day use of AI to improve developer productivity, software quality, automation, troubleshooting, documentation, and engineering operations.
• Lead and develop Engineering teams, ensuring projects are delivered on time and at the expected level of quality.
• Establish and track engineering KPIs, development processes, and performance standards.
• Manage backlogs, sprints, priorities, dependencies, and resource allocation.
• Partner with Product, QA, DevOps, and CS to remove roadblocks and maintain visibility into project status and risks.
• Hire, coach, develop, and performance-manage engineering talent.
• Contribute to software and infrastructure architecture, technical debt reduction, security, scalability, and high availability.
• Respond to critical production issues, lead root-cause analysis, and drive improvements to prevent recurrence.
• Partner with Engineering leadership on team structure, headcount, tooling, and technology investments.

Who You Are:

• Must have: Demonstrated experience using AI tools and technologies in day-to-day Engineering operations.
• 10+ years of software engineering experience in a SaaS environment, including experience building scalable, high-availability applications.
• 4+ years of PHP with an MVC framework such as Symfony, Zend, or Laravel.
• 7+ years of MySQL or another relational database.
• 3+ years of HTML, JavaScript, and CSS, with experience using React, Angular, Vue.js, or similar frameworks.
• 5+ years leading software engineering teams as a Manager, Team Lead, or Director.
• Experience designing, building, and supporting applications using microservices architecture.
• Experience managing complex software projects from design through production and ongoing support.
• Strong experience with Agile development, including Scrum and/or Kanban.
• Experience partnering cross-functionally with Product, QA, DevOps, and other business teams.
• Experience hiring, developing, and managing engineering teams.
• Strong technical, business, and executive communication skills.
• Experience with additional languages such as Python, Node.js, C++, or Perl is a plus.
• BSc/MSc in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.

Nice to Have

• Experience with VoIP and real-time communications technologies, including SIP, RTP, Asterisk, FreeSWITCH, Kamailio, or similar platforms.
• Familiarity with call routing, telephony infrastructure, SBCs, and carrier integrations.
• Experience building or supporting high-volume, real-time voice systems.
