BMC is looking for a Principal Program Manager, Product Operations to join our amazing Control-M product management team!
This role is based in the United States, with a strong preference for the East Coast (Eastern time zone). We will also consider exceptional candidates in the Midwest (Central time zone).
The Digital Business Automation (DBA) product line is BMC's industry-leading orchestration and automation platform. Control-M from BMC helps the world's largest companies automate time-sensitive, business-critical workflows. We orchestrate data and ML pipelines, supply chains, production lines, financial transactions, and many other processes in complex IT environments worldwide.
The DBA product management team defines the future vision for Control-M SaaS, Control-M on-premises, and new products, and we ship on two rhythms, quarterly for SaaS and twice a year for on-premises. In this role, you will run the DBA product operating model from the moment an idea arrives through launch and the retrospective that follows each release. You will own the release calendar and milestone reviews, idea intake and statuses, the path for incubating new products, customer programs, product management tooling, and the metrics that show whether the model is working.
By the end of your first year, every idea leaves each quarterly planning review with a status and a reason, every milestone holds its date with complete inputs, and our product managers spend their time on customers, discovery, and delivery.
This role reports to the VP of Product Management, Digital Business Automation, and works closely with product management, engineering, Product Marketing, Support, Customer Success, and Sales enablement. Most of our product and engineering teams are based in Tel Aviv, so you will overlap their working day each morning for handoffs and schedule reviews that work for attendees in both the US and Israel.
Key Responsibilities:
- Own the release calendar for each Control-M product line, kept a year ahead and aligned with engineering calendars and PI planning, and run every milestone review from the Theme Review through launch.
- Prepare each quarterly planning review (QPR), including agendas, input templates, completeness checks, and standalone review decks, publish idea statuses a week before each QPR so every submitter can see the outcome, and keep a decision log in Aha! that leaders and product managers can rely on.
- Run weekly idea triage with a product manager on rotation, route each idea to its owning product manager, flag deal-linked requests, and make sure every idea record states the customer problem, links to the account, and carries the right theme and capability tags.
- Build a feedback channel for each product line that brings together ideas, support escalations, and NPS verbatims, and share regular "what we heard and what we decided" updates and roadmap views with the field.
- Run the new product path for new SKUs, buyers, and markets, including pitch intake, review agendas, evidence sprints tracked against kill criteria, funding decision materials that name the capacity source, MVP check-ins, and the handoff into the regular feature path.
- Coordinate launch readiness across engineering, Product Marketing, Support, Customer Success, and Sales enablement, and run a release retrospective two weeks after each release, then track the improvement the team chooses until it is done.
- Run our customer programs, including the public Aha! ideas portal, design partner recruiting for priority initiatives, and the product portion of the Customer Advisory Board agenda in partnership with Product Marketing.
- Own Aha! as the system of record for the DBA product organization, including its configuration, statuses, value and effort fields, the Jira integration, user access, and data quality, and maintain templates for idea records, opportunity briefs, PRDs, and milestone decks.
- Report operating model metrics at each QPR, run a product and go-to-market survey to set a baseline and measure change, and collect product line guardrails at fiscal year planning and refresh them before each Theme Review.
Requirements:
- 10+ years of experience in product operations, program management, or product management in a B2B software company
- Experience running product operations or program management for a product organization with several product lines, including both on-premises and SaaS products
- Experience running a quarterly planning cycle alongside engineering, including PI planning on a release train
- Experience running stage-gated funding for new products or incubation bets, including evidence reviews and kill criteria
- Hands-on administration of Aha!, including workspace configuration, ideas portals, and the Aha! and Jira integration
- Experience building intake programs that answer every submitter, including a public ideas portal
- The ability to build operating metrics and reporting from product tools
- The confidence to hold product managers and leaders to dates and inputs, and the willingness to change the process when a retrospective shows it is not working
- Excellent written communication, including review materials that executives can read cold
- Experience working with globally distributed teams, and the flexibility to start early to overlap with colleagues in Israel
- Fluent English, spoken and written
- Based in the US, Eastern time zone preferred, Central time zone considered for an exceptional candidate
Nice To Have:
- Experience with Pendo or another product analytics tool
- Experience running customer advisory boards or design partner programs
- Knowledge of workload automation, orchestration, or IT operations software
- Experience with SAFe or other scaled agile frameworks
