Marketing Designer

Location: Remote (this job may be performed in any state in the U.S.)

 

What you’ll do:

As a Designer for HMH’s Brand and Creative team, you’ll act as a visual storyteller, responsible for designing marketing collateral for our brands, products, solutions, and initiatives. As a Brand and Marketing Designer, you’re expected to have a broad range of skills across print and digital media. Designers are fluent in design fundamentals of typography, color, and composition. You are a hands-on creator who collaborates with senior team members to execute against our brand and marketing goals. As a strong brand translator, you create designs that bring strategies to life while adhering to multiple style guides. This role supports work across HMH’s portfolio of brands, balancing creative quality with speed, scalability, and brand consistency.

 

Working in Marketing, Designers will be responsible for the following primary duties:

 

  • Execute Strategic and Brand-Aligned Designs – Create compelling marketing and sales collateral that adheres to brand guidelines while effectively communicating the intended message across HMH’s portfolio of brands.
  • Collaborate with Team Members and Stakeholders – Work closely with senior designers, managers, and requestors to refine ideas, incorporate feedback, and deliver high-quality creative solutions.
  • Effectively Manage Time and Workload – Meet deadlines, prioritize tasks, and communicate any bandwidth or scheduling issues to leadership for smooth project execution.
  • Stay Current with Design and Digital Trends – Continuously improve skills, apply industry best practices, and bring fresh, innovative ideas to design projects.
  • Present and Justify Design Solutions – Clearly communicate design choices, ensuring that they align with creative briefs and contribute to initiative goals.
  • Adapt and Improve Designs Based on Feedback – Seek and integrate feedback from colleagues and supervisors to refine and enhance creative work.
  • Contribute to Innovation and Process Improvement – Challenge assumptions, suggest process enhancements, and introduce new ideas that improve team efficiency and creativity.
  • Demonstrate Technical Expertise and Precision – Maintain accuracy in design execution, build and manage files properly, and produce polished, high-quality work. Optimize personal organization and workflow to support seamless project handoff between designers.
  • Show Leadership and Initiative in Projects – Take ownership of assignments, involve others when necessary, and proactively contribute to the team's success and growth.

 

What you’ll need: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field
  • 2+ years of experience in graphic design or related field
  • Strong time-management and project management skills: ability to multi-task, manage multiple timelines, and work across functions
  • High attention to detail
  • Expertise in digital channels and marketing
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including presentation skills
  • Strong editorial design sensibility/eye, with excellent typography, layout, composition, and visual hierarchy across print and digital
  • Strong client-service orientation
  • Strong decision-making skills: find solutions quickly and with confidence
  • Experience working within design systems, templates, and reusable assets to support scalable production and self-service.
  • Experience using AI-assisted design or other emerging creative tools, with sound judgment to use them responsibly and effectively.
  • Proficient with in Adobe Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, etc.), Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Powerpoint), and Figma (not required but highly preferred)

 

Nice to Have: 

Workfront; Agile; designing for B2B solutions; Education industry; Canva or similar template-based design tools; experience with scalable marketing production

 

Physical Requirements:

 

  • Might be in a stationary position for a considerable time (sitting and/or standing)
  • Constantly operate a computer
  • Must be able to collaborate with colleagues via face to face, conference calls, and online meetings
  • Ability to work irregular hours, including weekends 

 

Salary: $70,000 - $75,00
