Job Title:             Manager, Instructional Design

Role Summary:          

The Instructional Design Manager is responsible for leading the strategy, design, development, implementation, and continuous improvement of learning solutions that support business needs and employee development. This role manages a team of Instructional Designers and LMS Administrators, ensuring high-quality learning content, consistent instructional design standards, effective curriculum management, and accurate administration of learning programs within SAP SuccessFactors. The position partners with business leaders, Human Resources, and cross-functional stakeholders to deliver scalable, engaging, and measurable learning experiences across the organization.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage a team of Instructional Designers and LMS Administrators, providing coaching, direction, workload prioritization, performance feedback, and professional development support.
  • Oversee the design, development, and maintenance of learning programs, e-learning courses, curricula, job aids, facilitator guides, assessments, standard operating procedures, and other training materials.
  • Establish and maintain instructional design standards, templates, quality assurance processes, and content development best practices to ensure consistency, accuracy, accessibility, and learner engagement.
  • Partner with business leaders, Human Resources, compliance teams, and subject matter experts to assess learning needs, define project scope, align content to business objectives, and prioritize learning requests.
  • Oversee SAP SuccessFactors Learning administration, including curriculum structure, course assignments, learning items, programs, completion tracking, reporting, user support, and system governance.
  • Ensure LMS Administrators maintain accurate learning records, troubleshoot system issues, support learners and leaders, and partner with HRIS or system support teams as needed.
  • Manage instructional design project plans, timelines, deliverables, stakeholder reviews, approvals, and communication to ensure projects are completed on time and aligned with expectations.
  • Lead the project management process for all Learning and Development projects, including intake, prioritization, planning, timeline management, stakeholder communication, progress tracking, and delivery of project outcomes.
  • Implement and lead the content governance process for all online trainings and training programs, including content standards, review cycles, version control, approvals, compliance alignment, and ongoing maintenance to ensure accuracy, consistency, and relevance.
  • Lead communication for all online trainings, including launch announcements, learner reminders, completion expectations, stakeholder updates, and follow-up messaging to support timely participation and program awareness.
  • Lead the quality assurance process for training materials and ensure all related SOP processes are documented, maintained, and consistently followed to support accuracy, compliance, and continuous improvement.
  • Review and provide feedback on learning content developed by the team to ensure instructional effectiveness, brand alignment, accuracy, consistency with learning objectives, and flawless content launches.
  • Use learning data, evaluations, LMS reports, and stakeholder feedback to measure training effectiveness, identify trends, and recommend improvements to learning programs and processes.
  • Support the transition of instructor-led content into blended, digital, and self-paced learning experiences using sound instructional design methodology.
  • Coordinate with vendors, consultants, and internal partners on third-party learning content, system integrations, content uploads, and learning technology enhancements.
  • Create and communicate project status updates, risks, issues, timelines, and recommendations to leadership and key stakeholders.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

 

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum 5+ years of experience in instructional design, learning technology, LMS administration, or learning and development, with prior people leadership experience preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience managing instructional designers, LMS administrators, content development projects, and cross-functional learning initiatives.
  • Strong knowledge of instructional design models and adult learning principles, including ADDIE, SAM, Agile learning design, blended learning, and evaluation methodology.
  • Hands-on experience with SAP SuccessFactors Learning, including course creation, curricula, programs, assignments, reports, learning history, system configuration, and user support.
  • Experience developing e-learning content using tools such as Articulate Storyline, Rise, Camtasia, Adobe Captivate, or similar authoring platforms.
  • Knowledge of SCORM, AICC, xAPI, learning object structure, content publishing, and LMS testing best practices.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, content authoring tools, learning management systems, project management tools, and reporting dashboards.
  • Strong leadership, communication, project management, stakeholder management, problem-solving, and process improvement skills.

 

ADDITIONAL MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum BS/BA in Instructional Design, Adult Education, Learning Technology, Human Resources, Organizational Development, Education, or related field; MS/MA preferred.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, English required, Spanish preferred.
  • Strong ability to manage multiple priorities, projects, deadlines, and stakeholder expectations in a fast-paced, changing environment.
  • Excellent attention to detail and commitment to content accuracy, system integrity, and learner experience.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to coach, mentor, develop, and hold team members accountable.
  • Ability to analyze learning data, identify process improvements, and recommend scalable solutions that support business priorities.
  • Must understand applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulations, including but not limited to personnel law, safety regulations, local municipal codes, organizational rules, regulations, directives, and standard operating procedures.
  • Must successfully complete a comprehensive background screening.
