Learning Technology & AI Specialist (11-12-month Fixed-term/Remote)

At Generation, we believe in the power of employment to change lives. We are a global nonprofit organization that supports adults to achieve economic mobility through employment. Generation trains and places adult learners of all ages into careers that are otherwise inaccessible, working in partnership with governments, employers, and other system actors. We also conduct original research and share data insights on high-priority global workforce transition topics to inform decision-making by workforce system stakeholders. Launched in 2015, Generation comprises a global hub (Generation You Employed, or GYE) and a network of in-country affiliates. To date, the network has 150,000+ graduates and 23,000+ employers across 50 professions and 17 countries.

When learners join Generation, 91% are unemployed, of which nearly half are long-term unemployed.  Three months after completing our program, graduates have a 78% job placement rate, rising to 88% within six months. Of our employed graduates, 79% are hired by repeat employers who have previously hired Generation graduates, and 89% are in jobs directly related to the profession for which we have trained them. Employed graduates immediately earn an average of 3-4X their previous earnings.  Two to five years after graduation, 77% of our alumni from upper-middle income countries continue to meet their daily financial needs and 63% can save for the future. To date, Generation’s global graduates have earned more than $1.9 billion in wages. Generation graduates typically have a secondary school background, 52% are female, 28% have dependents, and the majority identify with underrepresented communities in their country.

Position Overview:

The Learning Technology & AI Specialist provides hands-on technical expertise across Generation's AI-enabled learning ecosystem. The role is responsible for developing prototypes, building integrations, implementing automations, enhancing AI-enabled learning tools, and supporting the technical delivery of new learning technology solutions.

Working within the Online Team and reporting to the Learning Technology & AI Innovation Lead, the role supports the development and scaling of AI-enabled learning experiences while also dedicating approximately 50% of capacity to Product Team initiatives focused on accelerating curriculum development through AI, automation, and technology-enabled workflows.

This role is remote, with preference given to candidates based in India.

Key Accountabilities & Responsibilities:

Prototype Development & Technical Experimentation

• Build prototypes, proofs of concept, and MVPs to test emerging AI and learning technology opportunities.
• Develop technical solutions that enable rapid experimentation and validation of new ideas before recommending the idea for full development with our Digital Team.
• Support the technical development of AI-enabled learning experiences and instructor-facing tools.
• Collaborate with the Learning Technology & AI Innovation Lead to turn concepts and requirements into working solutions.

Product Team Support

• Dedicate approximately 50% of capacity to Product Team initiatives focused on accelerating curriculum development.
• Build tools, automations, and AI-enabled workflows that improve the speed and quality of curriculum design and maintenance.
• Support experimentation with AI approaches that improve content creation, review, adaptation, and localization processes.
• Collaborate closely with Product colleagues to transform ideas into practical technical solutions.

AI Tool Enhancement & Integration

• Develop and implement enhancements to Generation's portfolio of AI-enabled learning tools.
• Build and maintain integrations between AI tools, Canvas, and other learning platforms.
• Configure, optimize, and maintain third-party systems, automations, and workflows.
• Troubleshoot technical issues and identify opportunities to improve reliability, usability, and performance.
• Support the ongoing evolution of Generation's AI Learning Layer.

Learning Technology Implementation

• Support technical implementation activities associated with AI pilots and new learning technology initiatives.
• Work closely with Generation’s Digital Team to support testing, integration, deployment, and refinement of solutions.
• Create automations that improve operational efficiency and reduce manual effort.
• Support the development of data collection and reporting solutions that enable evidence-based decision making.

Required Experience And Skills:

Required

• Minimum 1-2 years' experience developing technical solutions, automations, integrations, or software-enabled products.
• Experience building prototypes, MVPs, proofs of concept, or technical experiments.
• Experience working with APIs, authentication methods, databases, and system integrations.
• Experience configuring and integrating third-party platforms, AI tools, and SaaS products.
• Experience working with AI-enabled tools, LLMs, automation platforms, or machine learning applications.
• Experience translating business or learning requirements into technical solutions.
• Strong problem-solving skills and comfort working in fast-moving, experimental environments.
• Working hours that overlap with CET by at least 4 hours.
• Fluency in English.

Strongly preferred

• Experience with Python, JavaScript, SQL, or similar technical languages.
• Experience with Canvas integrations or learning technology ecosystems.
• Experience with cloud platforms such as Azure, AWS, or Google Cloud.
• Experience building AI-enabled applications or LLM-based solutions.
• Understanding of teaching, learning, instructional design, or educational technology.
• Experience supporting product-development or curriculum-development initiatives.
