About Slate
Slate is a commercial cleaning company serving clients nationwide. We work with businesses that care about the spaces they operate in — from boutique fitness studios and medspas to offices and commercial facilities. We're a growing team of 150+ and we're at the point where sales needs an owner. That's this role.
The Role
You'll be Slate's first dedicated sales hire, responsible for building and running the sales function end to end. This is a true full-cycle role: you'll own the pipeline from first touch to signed contract, and you'll design the systems and processes that make it repeatable as we scale.
Day to day, that means:
- Owning our lead generation channels. Manage and optimize the channels that bring us leads — digital, referral, partnerships — and figure out which ones deserve more investment.
- Running targeted outbound. Build prospect lists in our key verticals, run account-based outreach to decision-makers, and pick up the phone when that's what it takes.
- Handling inbound. Respond to inquiries quickly and professionally, qualify them, and move the right ones forward.
- Conducting discovery. Run discovery calls and video walkthroughs, understand each prospect's operational needs, and scope engagements we can deliver on — partnering with our NYC operations team for on-site walks.
- Negotiating and closing. Structure proposals, negotiate contracts, and get deals signed.
- Handing off cleanly. Transition new clients to account management so they're set up for a great first ninety days.
- Building the function. Continue building our internal (using AI), define the process, track the numbers, and shape our sales strategy as we grow — this role is both hands-on and strategic.
Why This Role
- Ground-floor ownership of an entire function, with direct access to the founder and leadership team.
- A real product to sell: an established client base, strong service delivery, and room to grow in proven verticals
- Your work will visibly move the company's trajectory — and your compensation will reflect it
Requirements
Who You Are
- 4+ years of B2B sales experience with full-cycle ownership — ideally selling services (facilities, cleaning, security, staffing, or similar recurring-revenue services)
- Comfortable being a team of one: you can prospect in the morning, run discovery at noon, and refine the pipeline dashboard in the afternoon
- Genuinely happy on the phone — this is a relationship business, and you'll spend real time talking to prospects, not just emailing them
- Strong negotiator who can hold margin while building trust
- Organized and systems-minded: you don't just close deals, you build the machine that closes deals
- Familiarity with CRM tools and modern outbound tooling
- Based anywhere in the US
Nice to have: experience selling to multi-location businesses (fitness, healthcare, retail, hospitality) or in commercial real estate–adjacent services.
Benefits
Compensation
We publish our full comp structure because we want you to see exactly how the money works before you apply.
Base salary — starts at $1,000/week, with an automatic, formula-based path to $2,000/week:
- $1,000/week to start
- $1,500/week once the accounts you've closed are adding $20K/month to Slate's active recurring revenue (each account active and paying for 60+ days)
- $2,000/week when your accounts are adding $50K/month
- Steps up the pay period after you hit the milestone — no annual review, no discretion. Once earned, your base never goes back down.
Uncapped commission on every account you close, paid monthly for the first 12 months of each contract, as the client pays:
- 7% on the first $10K of an account's monthly billing
- 3% from $10K–50K/month
- 1.5% above $50K/month
Our accounts range from ~$2K/month to $200K+/month in billing, so the earning ceiling is real: a seller sustaining a healthy close rate in our core verticals reaches six-figure total comp well within year one, with no cap above that.
