Business Development Manager - South East Asia

  • Build partnerships
  • Turn momentum into opportunity
  • Shape the future of digital trust.

About MATTR

At MATTR, we’re building a future where people and organisations can connect and share information securely, on their terms.

Our SaaS platform helps organisations issue, verify and accept digital credentials, bringing trust and authenticity to digital interactions. From established enterprises to web3 innovators, we enable our customers to build secure solutions that respect people’s privacy.

With roots in New Zealand and a global outlook, we’re looking for someone to build on our momentum across South East Asia and turn market opportunity into lasting commercial success.

About the role

Across South East Asia, public and private sector organisations are exploring how digital credentials can build trust, while industry bodies and developer communities help shape adoption. MATTR already has a strong reputation and growing relationships in the region. Your opportunity is to turn those connections into qualified pipeline, successful partnerships and signed contracts.

As our Business Development Manager for South East Asia, you’ll be MATTR’s primary presence in the region. You’ll connect with organisations across sectors, along with integrators and local partners, owning the sales journey from initial conversations and pilots through to production contracts and account growth.

Taking a partner-first approach, you’ll navigate complex, multi-stakeholder sales cycles across multiple markets. You’ll understand who needs to be involved, how decisions get made and what it takes to keep an opportunity moving.

What you’ll be doing

  • Build and convert pipeline: Develop direct and partner-sourced opportunities across priority markets and sectors, including government, financial services and other regulated and commercial organisations, and the integration and consulting partners who serve them.
  • Turn connections into opportunities: Develop named accounts and partner relationships, converting conversations at events, industry forums and community initiatives into qualified prospects.
  • Connect technical engagement with commercial opportunity: Work with strategy and regional advisory colleagues to identify potential customers through standards and developer-community engagement.
  • Own the commercial journey: Work with colleagues handling initial enquiries to qualify leads, establish clear outcomes and progress opportunities through to signed contracts.
  • Turn pilots into production: Shape proofs of concept and pilots, coordinate commercial and contracting inputs, and navigate each market’s procurement and funding requirements, including RFx and tender responses.
  • Grow customer accounts: Build account plans that support expansion and renewals, identifying risks early and bringing in the right support.
  • Build MATTR’s regional profile: Plan events and speaking opportunities that strengthen our presence and generate qualified pipeline.
  • Keep the team informed: Share market insights, competitor developments and customer feedback to inform our strategy, messaging and product roadmap, while maintaining accurate CRM records with an owner, value, close date and next step for every opportunity.

What you’ll bring

  • Business development or enterprise sales experience across South East Asia, ideally within digital identity, enterprise technology or regulated industries.
  • A track record of owning a revenue target and closing complex deals involving multiple stakeholders.
  • A working understanding of the region’s digital identity landscape, including national programmes, private sector adoption and the standards and developer communities supporting them.
  • Experience generating business through partners as well as direct sales.
  • The confidence and initiative to represent MATTR in the region, working independently while staying connected with a global team.
  • Strong commercial judgement and CRM discipline, giving the team a reliable view of opportunities, progress and risks.
  • A collaborative approach, contributing to shared playbooks, campaigns and reviews, and knowing when to bring others in.
  • A few things that would help you stand out
  • Established relationships with public or private sector organisations, or with integration partners, across the region.
  • Experience engaging with industry bodies, standards communities or developer ecosystems.
  • Language skills or cultural fluency relevant to key South East Asian markets.

Why Join MATTR

You’ll build on an established regional reputation, with the autonomy to develop partnerships and pursue opportunities across a varied and evolving market.

The role offers exposure to a wide range of digital identity initiatives across public and private sectors, complex commercial challenges and the chance to deepen your expertise alongside a global team. Your work will help bring digital trust into everyday use for organisations and the people they serve.
