The Senior Project Manager leads software sustainment, modernization, and business process improvement initiatives supporting the National Park Service. This position is responsible for managing schedules, resources, stakeholders, risks, deliverables, and technical teams while ensuring successful execution of application enhancement, operational support, reporting, and business transformation activities.

 

The Senior Project Manager serves as the primary delivery lead for assigned projects and is responsible for coordinating technical and business resources, driving project execution, supporting customer priorities, and ensuring successful outcomes that align with mission objectives.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and coordinate the delivery of software sustainment, modernization, and operational support initiatives.
  • Develop and manage integrated project schedules, work plans, milestones, deliverables, dependencies, resources, risks, and issues.
  • Coordinate activities across project management, software development, business analysis, systems analysis, reporting, testing, training, and customer support functions.
  • Manage approved system enhancements and operational improvements while minimizing disruption to users and mission operations.
  • Support modernization efforts focused on improving business processes, reporting capabilities, workflow efficiency, and customer outcomes.
  • Collaborate with Government stakeholders to identify priorities, gather requirements, establish objectives, and develop implementation strategies.
  • Oversee project execution through planning, design, development, testing, implementation, transition, and operational support activities.
  • Monitor performance against cost, schedule, scope, quality, and customer satisfaction objectives.
  • Identify, analyze, and mitigate project risks while communicating impacts and recommendations to stakeholders.
  • Prepare and deliver project status reports, executive briefings, schedules, and other project management artifacts.
  • Facilitate stakeholder meetings, technical reviews, planning sessions, workshops, and decision-making forums.
  • Ensure deliverables meet quality standards and align with customer expectations and contract requirements.
  • Support requirements management, process improvement initiatives, testing activities, implementation planning, and operational readiness efforts.
  • Coordinate cross-functional teams to ensure successful execution of project objectives and deliverables.
  • Promote continuous improvement and identify opportunities to enhance project delivery, customer satisfaction, and operational effectiveness.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable Federal, Departmental, and organizational policies and procedures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • 10+ years of project management experience.
    • Demonstrated experience managing software development, application support, modernization, or business transformation initiatives.
    • Experience leading cross-functional technical and business teams.
    • Experience managing project schedules, budgets, risks, resources, and stakeholder expectations.
    • Experience developing and delivering executive-level communications and status reporting.
  • Current Project Management Professional (PMP) certification.
  • Ability to successfully pass required background and drug screening.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Business Administration, Project Management, or a related field.
  • Experience supporting Federal civilian agencies.
  • Experience supporting the National Park Service or Department of the Interior.
  • Experience leading modernization, workflow improvement, digital transformation, or application lifecycle management efforts.
  • Experience working in Agile, Scrum, Waterfall, or hybrid project environments.
  • Experience supporting data analytics, business intelligence, reporting, or operational improvement initiatives.
  • Familiarity with Human Centered Design principles and customer-focused solution delivery approaches.

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Strong knowledge of project management principles, methodologies, and best practices.
  • Knowledge of Federal information technology programs and project delivery environments.
  • Excellent leadership, facilitation, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong organizational and analytical abilities.
  • Ability to lead multiple concurrent projects and priorities in a dynamic environment.
  • Strong leadership and team-building capabilities.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with executives, business stakeholders, technical personnel, and customer representatives.
  • Strong risk management, issue resolution, and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to translate strategic objectives into executable plans and measurable outcomes.
  • Strong understanding of software development and system lifecycle concepts.
  • Ability to build and maintain productive customer relationships.
  • Strong analytical and critical-thinking abilities.
  • Ability to work effectively in a remote and geographically distributed environment.
