OCI Cloud Architect
Financial Services | North America Cloud Engineering
The opportunity
Help financial institutions solve the infrastructure challenges behind their most important workloads. Oracle is seeking a Cloud Architect with direct financial services experience to join our OCI Financial Services Cloud Engineering team in North America.
Our team works with banks, investment firms, insurers, payments companies, and financial technology providers to evaluate and adopt Oracle Cloud Infrastructure. We connect cloud architecture to specific business outcomes: faster research and risk calculations, resilient transaction processing, modern data platforms, and governed AI. We work alongside customers’ existing technology estates, including on-premises systems and other public clouds.
In this strategic presales role, you will lead technical engagements from discovery through architecture, hands-on validation, and the technical decision, partnering through adoption and operational handoff. You will work with executives, application owners, platform engineers, and security and risk teams to establish what success means and demonstrate whether a proposed solution meets it.
What you will do
- Lead workload discovery with sales and customer teams. Identify the business objective, application dependencies, current performance and cost, control requirements, decision makers, and a clear path to technical acceptance.
- Design OCI, hybrid, and multicloud architectures across compute, storage, networking, identity, security, containers, data platforms, and observability. Explain tradeoffs in performance, resilience, operational complexity, and total cost.
- Build and lead workshops, demonstrations, proofs of concept, and benchmarks using representative workloads and approved data. Agree success criteria in advance and document results, limitations, and the customer’s decision.
- Bring financial services context to architecture choices, including transaction correctness, peak demand, batch deadlines, data entitlements, recovery objectives, and dependencies on legacy and third-party systems.
- Partner with customer security, risk, compliance, and operations teams to address access controls, encryption and key management, data residency, audit evidence, resilience, and third-party technology review.
- Develop technical proposals, infrastructure sizing, bills of materials, migration approaches, and business cases. Include software licensing, connectivity, support, and operations in cost comparisons; validate service availability and capacity with the appropriate teams.
- Coordinate OCI specialists, Product Management, Engineering, Customer Success, Consulting, and partners to resolve blockers and support a practical transition from proof to adoption.
- Present clearly to technical and executive audiences, maintain accurate engagement plans and next steps, and turn successful approaches into reusable reference architectures and team enablement.
What you bring
- 10+ years of relevant experience in cloud architecture, infrastructure engineering, solution engineering, technical consulting, or enterprise architecture, including direct work within financial services or delivering technology to financial institutions.
- Demonstrated depth in at least one financial services domain: banking, payments, capital markets, investment management, insurance, or financial technology. You can explain a real workload, its business purpose, operational constraints, and the architecture decisions you made.
- Strong architecture and practical engineering skills on OCI, AWS, Microsoft Azure, or Google Cloud, with the ability to build OCI expertise. Experience spanning compute, networking, storage, identity, security, and resilient application or data platforms.
- Hands-on ability to deploy and troubleshoot cloud environments, use infrastructure as code, and automate with scripting or APIs. You can investigate application, network, and storage bottlenecks and validate designs with evidence.
- Experience navigating financial institutions’ architecture reviews, security assessments, change processes, and production-readiness requirements. You understand shared responsibility and can translate control requirements into technical designs with the relevant specialists.
- Success leading complex customer or stakeholder engagements, aligning business and technical teams, communicating with senior leaders, and advancing decisions across organizational boundaries. Presales experience is valuable; practitioners moving into a customer-facing architecture role are also encouraged to apply.
Experience that will help you stand out
Bring depth in several of the following areas; expertise across every area is not expected.
- Quantitative research, backtesting, Monte Carlo simulation, portfolio risk, CPU/GPU compute grids, workload schedulers, or market-data ingestion and analytics.
- Payments, transaction processing, reconciliation, banking integration, or financial software platforms, including event processing, idempotency, and recovery.
- Insurance and actuarial computing, financial data platforms, database modernization, or integration of enterprise and industry applications.
- Kubernetes, Terraform, CI/CD, Linux, private connectivity, high-performance storage, or hybrid and multicloud operations.
- AI and generative AI infrastructure, retrieval and inference, model evaluation, data protection, human oversight, and model-risk or AI-governance practices in financial services.
- Disaster recovery testing, recovery time and recovery point objectives, cloud economics, or mapping cloud controls to customer policies and relevant industry frameworks.
A bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience, is preferred. Relevant cloud certifications are a plus.
What success looks like in your first year
- Earn trust with customer and Oracle account teams through sound technical judgment and a working understanding of their financial services workloads.
- Lead qualified opportunities through documented discovery, architecture, and validation, with measurable success criteria and clear technical decisions.
- Contribute to technical wins and customer adoption, partnering with delivery and success teams to address operational readiness and deployment dependencies.
- Build reusable financial services architectures, proof plans, and enablement that strengthen the wider team.
If you enjoy working directly with financial institutions, building and testing solutions, and connecting technical decisions to business results, we would like to hear from you.
