The Billing Manager is responsible for all aspects of the client billing process, including maintenance of systems/data, continuous process improvements, accuracy of revenue recognition, and development of billing team members. 

Essential Job Responsibilities Include:

  • Oversee semi-monthly billing process, ensuring client invoices are distributed accurately and timely and any reconciling items are researched and resolved.
  • Serve as authoritative billing point of contact with PBM partners for complex billing matters, new regulatory requirements, and contractual terms related to revenue and client invoicing.
  • Ensure appropriate revenue recognition for existing and new revenue streams, including monthly accruals and deferrals.
  • Review monthly close tasks prepared by Billing Coordinators and Senior Billing Accountant and evaluate balance sheet and income statement accounts for proper monthly activity.
  • Serve as liaison between the billing team and other departments, specifically: Account Management, Broker Relations, and Product/IT.
  • Partner with leadership of other teams within Accounting (Accounts Receivable, Commissions, Financial Risk, etc.) to ensure seamless client-facing interactions.
  • Supervise and develop a team of 8-10 employees, conducting frequent one-on-ones with direct reports, periodic skip-levels with indirect reports, and weekly team meetings.
  • Conduct periodic review of all process documentation for proper preventive and detective controls and potential efficiencies, adapting to changing business dynamics as needed.
  • Monitor ticketing system for clients and internal departments ensuring service level standards are met and spikes in ticket volume are properly distributed among team members.
  • Administration and maintenance of all billing technology tools in collaboration with internal Product/IT teams.
  • Design and review monthly audits of client fees, ensuring discrepancies are investigated for root cause analysis.
  • Prepare documentation and assist with the annual external financial statement audit.
  • Help maintain Confluence Accounting site accuracy.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Required Skills / Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required 
  • 5+ years’ experience in a directly related accounting role 
  • Experience managing a team of 5+ employees 
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills
  • Demonstrated experience with process documentation, including identifying and implementing process improvements
  • Ability to manage multiple assignments simultaneously to meet deadlines 
  • Well-developed written and oral communications skills

Preferred Skills/Experience:

  • CPA license a plus
  • Pharmacy benefit industry experience preferred

Based on relevant market data and other factors, the anticipated hiring range for this role is $88,000 to $110,000 annually. Final compensation rates will be determined based on various factors, including but not limited to experience, skills, knowledge, and internal equity considerations. This role is also short-term incentive eligible. Incentive amounts will vary by individual and business goals. We are committed to fair and equitable compensation practices.
