YouAbout the Role: Your Epic Quest as Our Finance Manager – Accounting & FP&A!
You’ll own and lead core accounting and FP&A operations that keep Penguin financially healthy and investor-ready. This is a hands-on, high-ownership role: you’ll run the month-end close with our external accountants, own the financial model and forecasting, manage cash flow and vendor/customer operations, oversee payroll and benefits reconciliation, drive board reporting, and lead fundraising diligence efforts. You’ll be a trusted strategic partner to leadership, shaping the financial roadmap that fuels rapid, disciplined growth.
What Success Looks Like:
- Month 1-3: Take full ownership of month-end close, reconcile core accounts, and deliver accurate cash/burn reporting with proactive insight to leadership
- Month 3-6: Own and continuously improve the financial model and rolling forecast; identify variances, drivers, and actionable recommendations that shape decisions
- Month 6-12: Drive the board reporting cadence end-to-end; run AP/AR and expense programs with strong controls; lead fundraising/due diligence support and tax compliance
Your Day-to-Day Superpowers: What You’ll Actually Do:
- Own and lead the monthly close process with external accountants: reconciliations, accruals, journal entries, and final review of books for accuracy and completeness
- Own and continuously improve the company financial model and rolling forecasts; track actuals vs. budget and proactively surface variances, drivers, and recommendations to leadership
- Own cash flow and runway management; produce and present weekly and monthly burn and cash position reports to leadership, recommending action
- Oversee accounts payable and receivable: vendor invoice processing, payments, and customer collections
- Own expense management and corporate card programs (Ramp, Brex, or equivalent); set and enforce policy and review transactions
- Oversee payroll processing and benefits reconciliation in coordination with HR/PEO; ensure payroll accuracy and compliance
- Lead preparation of monthly and quarterly board reporting materials, including KPI dashboards, financial summaries, and narrative insight on trends
- Build and own the annual budget and rolling forecasts; partner directly with functional leads to translate operational plans into numbers
- Lead fundraising and diligence support: prepare financial reporting, build exhibits, and respond directly to investor questions
- Own state and local tax filings; serve as the primary point of contact for external tax advisors and ensure timely compliance
