Summary: The Director, Finance – Clinical Trials is responsible for the financial operations, fiscal oversight, reporting, and internal control environment for all clinical trials conducted at Blood Cancer United, including Beat AML and PedAL. This role develops and implements fiscal policies and processes, supports accurate forecasting and reporting, and partners with clinical operations and finance teams to ensure strong financial stewardship.

Supervises:    1 Senior Accountant 

Duties and Responsibilities:  

  • Oversee financial accounting and operations for clinical trials, including:
         - Invoicing and cash collections
         - Cash management
         - Vendor invoices
         - Expense allocations
         - Account reconciliations
  • Manage the senior accountant, including review and approval of accounting activities.
  • Partner with the internal clinical operations team to develop trial protocol budgets, forecasts, billing schedules, and reporting, as needed.
  • Partner with the internal clinical operations team to provide financial oversight of external clinical research organizations and other vendors, including budget development, monthly invoice reviews and reconciliations, and cash flow management.
  • Develop and maintain monthly and quarterly reporting on trial activities for the internal clinical operations team and executive leadership.
  • Maintain internal controls and ensure compliance with Blood Cancer United policies and procedures. 
  • Assist with the development of the annual Blood Cancer United budget and quarterly forecasts related to clinical trials.
  • Develop P&L and cash projections for each clinical trial and protocol arm, and partner with the treasury and FP&A teams to ensure accurate reflection of trial activity within Blood Cancer United projections and forecasts.
  • Respond to audit and legal inquiries related to clinical trial financial activities.
  • Support additional finance, reporting, and operational initiatives as assigned.

Education & Experience Requirements:  

  • CPA and Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance required.
  • 8+ years of financial accounting experience required.
  • 3+ years of management experience required.

Position Requirements:  

  • Experience in fiscal operations, clinical research contract administration, subcontract administration, or an equivalent combination of education and experience required.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of project budgeting and fiscal management required; comprehensive knowledge of clinical research contracts and subcontracts preferred.
  • Knowledge of current GAAP accounting and financial statement disclosure requirements, as well as IRS reporting requirements.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and competing priorities effectively.
  • Strong financial, analytical, modeling, and problem-solving skills.  
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail. 
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. 
  • Strong technical knowledge of accounting principles and practices. 
  • NetSuite, Adaptive, or similar financial systems experience preferred. 
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.

  • Maximize Patient Impact: Reach more patients and have greater impact through improved efficiency, urgency and effectiveness of support, education, and information delivery. 
  • Increase Awareness: Raise Blood Cancer United brand awareness and engagement to drive revenue & establish Blood Cancer United as the leading cancer organization driving cures & access. 
  • Improve Net Profitability: Maximize net income from existing channels through prioritization, organizational alignment and optimization of resources. 
  • Diversify Revenue: Identify and develop high-growth, high-margin revenue opportunities focusing on volunteer initiatives, eRevenue, donor development and new partner development. 
  • Enhance Organizational Performance: Assess resources, improve productivity and optimize organizational capacity.

We are excited to share the base pay range for this position is $90K to $128K. The offered compensation may vary based on factors such as geographic location, business need, market conditions, proficiencies, skills, education, and experience. Additionally, at Blood Cancer United we place a high value on internal pay equity and will consider the current compensation of similarly situated roles and direct team members. Base compensation is only one component of our Total Rewards program, which also includes an annual incentive plan and a competitive benefits package.
