AI Summary

The Deputy Director leads financial planning, analysis, and grant management across US and European entities to support organizational decision-making. This role partners with program and development teams to manage budgets, forecasts, and complex financial models while ensuring compliance with donor requirements.

Together for Girls works around the world and combines state-of-the-art data with powerful advocacy to end violence against children and adolescents, especially sexual violence. Through data and advocacy, TfG drives action to break cycles of violence and ensure prevention, healing, and justice. By connecting the dots between understanding the problem, identifying effective solutions, tracking progress, and mobilizing for action, TfG creates a synergistic effect that amplifies its impact and drives toward its ultimate goal of creating a safer world for children and adolescents.

Grounded in 19 years of data from the Violence Against Children and Youth Surveys (VACS), which provide a clear picture of the problem, we drive coordinated action through three initiatives that collectively contribute to ending violence against children. The Safe Futures Solutions Hub shares evidence and practice-based knowledge to inform effective prevention and response efforts, ensuring access to proven solutions across sectors. The Brave Movement mobilizes survivors and allies worldwide to drive political will, influence policy, and ensure that inaction is not an option. Finally, the Out of the Shadows Index tracks countries’ progress in addressing violence, providing an accountability framework and benchmark for advocacy. Together, these initiatives form a powerful model that transforms evidence into collective action for prevention, healing, and justice.

We are a nimble and highly impactful team that continues to grow and evolve. We work with a broad range of organizations, researchers, and advocates to drive change.

Position Overview

The Deputy Director, Financial Planning & Analysis plays a key role in strengthening Together for Girls’ financial planning, analysis, and grant financial management across its US and European entities. Reporting to the Senior Director, Finance, this role leads and supports budgeting, forecasting, financial analysis, grant financial management, and proposal costing, translating complex financial information into clear insights that support organizational decision-making.

Working closely with Finance, Development, Grants Management, and Program teams, the Deputy Director, Financial Planning & Analysis will help ensure TfG effectively plans and manages resources across a diverse portfolio of donor-funded programs. The role requires both strong technical financial skills and the ability to partner with non-finance colleagues, identify emerging financial risks and opportunities, and develop practical tools and analysis that strengthen financial management across the organization.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Partner with the Senior Director of Finance to develop and maintain annual organizational budgets across TfG’s US and European entities, coordinate periodic re-forecasts, and strengthen organization-wide budgeting and planning tools.
  • Produce consolidated financial analysis and reporting, including quarterly budget-to-actual variance analysis, forecasts, financial health metrics, and other insights to support management and leadership decision-making.
  • Develop financial models and scenario analyses to inform organizational planning, new initiatives, funding opportunities, cost structures, and the continued development of TfG’s multi-entity operating model.
  • Working closely with the Senior Manager of Finance & Operations, manage financial planning and analysis for an assigned portfolio of grants, including monitoring burn rates, forecasting expenditures, reconciling financial activity to the general ledger, and preparing accurate donor financial reports.
  • Partner with program and project management teams to strengthen grant forecasting and ensure financial plans reflect anticipated program delivery, staffing, and award timelines.
  • Maintain and analyze staff level-of-effort (LOE) allocations across grants, entities, fiscal years, and award periods; monitor actual and budgeted effort and identify funding gaps, over- or under-allocation, and other emerging risks.
  • Reconcile LOE and personnel costs against payroll allocations and grant budgets and provide analysis to support re-forecasting, proposal development, effort reporting, audit requirements, and applicable cost-recharge methodologies based on donor expectations.
  • Lead financial modeling and budget development for new proposals, working with Finance, Development, Programs, and Grants Management to develop funder-ready budgets, model staffing and other cost assumptions, and ensure alignment with donor cost requirements and organizational financial targets.
  • Support effective indirect cost recovery and broader cost-allocation approaches across TfG’s diverse funding portfolio, contributing financial analysis to discussions about donor requirements and organizational cost structures.
  • Partner closely with the Grants & Compliance Manager, Senior Manager Finance & Operations and other colleagues to ensure financial reporting and grant management are accurate, timely, and aligned with applicable donor requirements.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of financial systems, models, templates, dashboards, and processes to strengthen efficiency, accuracy, visibility, and financial decision-making across the organization.
  • Other duties, as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience:

  • 5–8 years of progressively responsible experience in nonprofit/NGO finance, financial planning and analysis (FP&A), grants finance, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated experience managing complex organizational and/or grant budgets, forecasting, financial analysis, and budget-to-actual reporting.
  • Strong knowledge of grant and fund accounting principles and experience managing finances across a diverse donor-funded portfolio.
  • Experience with financial requirements and reporting for institutional donors; experience with government, bilateral, multilateral, and/or foundation funders such as the European Union, FCDO, Global Affairs Canada, or similar donors strongly preferred.
  • Advanced Excel skills and demonstrated ability to develop and maintain financial models, forecasts, allocation methodologies, and analytical tools.
  • Experience working with accounting and financial management systems, including QuickBooks and/or other ERP or customized financial systems.
  • Strong analytical judgment and ability to identify financial trends, risks, and opportunities and translate complex financial information into clear, actionable insights for non-finance audiences.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to financial accuracy, combined with the ability to understand the broader organizational and programmatic implications of financial information.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple complex workstreams, deadlines, grants, and stakeholders simultaneously.
  • Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills, with experience partnering effectively with program, development, grants, operations, and senior leadership colleagues.
  • Experience working across multiple legal entities, currencies, or international operations preferred.
  • Experience with personnel cost allocation, level-of-effort tracking, indirect cost recovery, and/or donor effort-reporting requirements preferred.
  • Comfortable working independently in a globally distributed, cross-functional environment and exercising sound judgment within established organizational and financial frameworks.
  • Alignment with the mission and values of Together for Girls.
