THE OPPORTUNITY We are a growing, multi-state legal services organization with a consistent record of organic growth and an active acquisition program. As we scale, we need a Chief Financial Officer who can bring rigor, creativity, and experienced leadership to our financial function. This is a hands-on, high-impact role partnering directly with the CEO to build the reporting, planning, and deal infrastructure that will carry the business through its next stage of growth.
OUR STRATEGY Organic. Our top priority is maintaining predictable growth in our core business, which is growing consistently in the Midwest. We expect acquisitions to further accelerate that growth. Inorganic. Strategically add law firms in southern and midwestern states to (1) expand EBITDA, (2) establish new state bases from which to launch our brand, and (3) capture valuation arbitrage.
WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR • Professional services experience (required). Legal industry experience is not necessary. • Multi-entity, multi-state finance leadership. • A track record of scaling a business through transformation. • Acquisitions experience, ideally across multiple transactions. • Enthusiasm for deep AI deployment across the finance function. • Builder mentality: hungry to help create something that has never been done before in law. • Servant leadership (required): humility, low ego, and a team-first mindset.
WHAT YOU WILL OWN • Financial Reporting & Close: monthly close within 5 business days. • FP&A: budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis. • Unit Economics: profitability by office and by attorney. • Cash & Working Capital: trust accounts, retainer replenishment, and WIP-to-cash. • Compensation Design: plans across all roles. • Risk, Insurance & Controls: a scalable internal control environment. • Capital Allocation: partner with leadership to maximize stakeholder value. • Finance Team Leadership: lead and develop bookkeeping, collections, reporting, and BI analysis. • Tax & Compliance: optimize tax efficiency and maintain compliance with legal-industry ethics and ownership rules.
HELP BUILD THE M&A ENGINE • Valuation of target law firms. • Modeling of cash flow, cost take-out, revenue, and EBITDA. • Deal Structure: design terms for each acquisition. • Due Diligence on all financial aspects. • Deal Advisory: support the deal team from negotiation through close. • Integration: financial onboarding of newly acquired firms.
