Position Overview
The Assistant Director of Revenue Cycle is responsible for overseeing daily operations, supervising staff, and implementing strategies to optimize the revenue cycle for the organization. Key duties include ensuring accurate and timely claims submission, analyzing denial trends, and working to improve financial performance. This role involves both strategic planning and tactical management to maximize revenue, ensure compliance, and enhance efficiency.
This position will be a hands-on, results-driven Assistant Director of Revenue Cycle to lead our revenue cycle operations. Unlike traditional administrative roles, this is a working leadership position. The Assistant Director will be expected to split their time between strategic team management and working alongside team members to execute daily revenue cycle tasks directly.
Essential Job Functions
- Supervise Revenue Cycle Managers in areas of responsibility including but not limited to Billing, Coding, Payment Posting, Insurance Follow-up, Credit Balance/Refunds, and Customer Service.
- Support Managers in supervision and training of revenue cycle staff and Team Leads to ensure staff competency and assist with hiring and personnel concerns.
- Develop, implement, and maintain policies and procedures to improve operational efficiency and accuracy across all revenue cycle functions.
- Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs), analyze denial and payment delay trends, and provide reports and recommendations to leadership to drive improvements.
- Maintain understanding of EDI Management for oversight and tracking of Payer portals, clearinghouse, ERA and EFT access and enrollments to streamline and improve efficiency in claims billing.
- Oversight of revenue cycle team to ensure all defined metrics and goals are communicated and obtained. Implement process improvement and training as needed.
- Ensure that defined goals are aligned with quality, efficiency and maximum revenue generation.
- Knowledge and understanding of billing and coding regulations to maintain compliance.
- Understanding and knowledge of payer billing/claims policies and reimbursement including but not limited to CMS Medicare, Medicaid and Managed Care products.
- Perform and/or oversight of daily, weekly, and monthly audits on all department processes to ensure production and quality assurance, goals and standards are achieved and maintained. Address any variances with Managers.
- Maintain regularly scheduled meetings with respective Managers and Team Leads to ensure all revenue cycle operations are working without interruption with focus on increase in efficiency and production quality.
- Will serve as subject matter expert in all revenue cycle operations.
- Ensure all implemented processes and new projects are maintained successfully, and timely feedback is provided to Director of Revenue Cycle.
- Foster effective communication and collaboration with Director of Revenue Cycle and other internal departments.
- Ensure timely communication with Revenue cycle IT team for ticket completion including but not limited to insurance master updates, hold maintenance and updates, clearing house issues and enrolments, system issues for operations, etc.

Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in healthcare administration, business administration, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).
- Extensive experience in institutional coding, institutional billing, institutional denials management, payment posting.
- In-depth knowledge of healthcare regulations, privacy laws, and billing requirements, CMS and State regulations and payer policies.
- Strong leadership and team management skills.
- Intermediate to advanced Microsoft Excel and Microsoft office skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to analyze data, identify trends, and make data-driven decisions.
- Proficient in using healthcare information systems and patient access software.
- Knowledge of revenue cycle management processes and strategies.
- Proven track record in process improvement and implementing best practices.
- Demonstrated ability to lead and motivate teams, collaborate with other departments, and act as a strategic partner to the Revenue Cycle Director.
