About This Position
We are searching for an Assistant Controller to join the Fenix24 accounting team. This is a high-impact, hands-on leadership role for a seasoned accounting professional who thrives in fast-moving environments and takes genuine ownership of building and improving the processes around them. Reporting directly to the VP of Accounting Operations and leading a team of five, the Assistant Controller will play a central role in maturing our accounting operations, strengthening internal controls, and scaling our financial infrastructure to match the pace of a rapidly growing company. This is not a role for someone who maintains the status quo — we are looking for someone who rolls up their sleeves, identifies what needs to change, and drives that change with urgency and precision.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead, develop, and manage a team of five, including two Senior Accountants, one Staff Accountant, a Payroll Manager, and an AP Specialist, fostering accountability, growth, and high performance.
- Assess current accounting processes with fresh eyes, identify gaps and inefficiencies, and build scalable, well-documented procedures that support the company’s growth trajectory.
- Own the month-end and year-end close process, ensuring timely, accurate completion of journal entries, account reconciliations, accruals, and financial statement preparation in accordance with US GAAP.
- Drive improvements across Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, and Payroll operations, with a focus on responsiveness, effectiveness, and accuracy.
- Leverage and optimize NetSuite, FloQast, and related automation tools to improve efficiency, reporting accuracy, and visibility across the accounting function.
- Support multi-entity and intercompany accounting, including revenue recognition in accordance with ASC 606 across IT services, managed services, and SaaS arrangements.
- Monitor and report on key financial metrics including DSO, aged payables, and cash flow indicators, providing timely analysis and insights to the VP of Accounting Operations.
- Design, document, and enforce internal controls and accounting policies, ensuring compliance with US GAAP and readiness for external audits or regulatory review.
- Partner cross-functionally with Finance, Operations, and leadership to support strategic initiatives and business scaling efforts.
- Assist in managing relationships with external third parties and service providers, including auditors, tax advisors, legal counsel, and consultants, supporting key workstreams in coordination with the VP of Accounting Operations.
- Support ad-hoc projects, analysis, and leadership requests on an ongoing basis as business needs evolve.
Qualifications, Requirements & Preferred Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required; CPA required or actively in progress (currently sitting for exams or on a defined path to licensure).
- Minimum of 7 years of progressive accounting experience, including at least 3 years in a relevant management role; public accounting background with a Big 4 or regional firm a plus.
- Deep understanding of US GAAP, including revenue recognition (ASC 606), multi-entity accounting, and intercompany eliminations.
- Demonstrated track record of jumping into new or early stage processes, identifying areas of opportunity, and driving measurable improvements with short-term impact.
- Proven people leader with a track record of developing high-performing teams, investing in the growth of those around them, and fostering a culture of accountability and trust.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to operate at both a strategic and detailed level simultaneously.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the demonstrated ability to build relationships across all levels of the organization while modeling Fenix's culture and values.
- Experience with NetSuite and FloQast is a plus but not required – we value adaptability and a willingness to learn
- Experience in IT services, managed services, or SaaS environments preferred.
