The Agency Development Manager will recruit and manage relationships with independent agents and brokerages to drive premium growth. They will also act as a product advocate, training producers on the company's insurance platform and underwriting appetite.
About the business
Etude operates in insurance, commercial real estate, and industrials. Our insurance business covers more than 5,000 properties with billions of dollars in insured value. Our real estate business owns approximately $1B of commercial property alongside the Kinder Family Office. Our industrial business is developing a multibillion-dollar, 40-acre steelworks to secure the domestic supply chain for electrical infrastructure.
About the team
We are roughly a 100-person team. We hire high-agency people and give them autonomy, responsibility, and diverse problems to work on. We operate with the intensity of a small company where every person's work is visible and believe responsiveness is a form of respect. If you're looking for a place to sharpen your craft alongside people who take their work seriously, you'll fit right in.
As our Agency Development Manager, you will be the face of Etude to the brokerage community. You will be responsible for identifying, appointing, and managing relationships with independent agents as well as regional and national brokerages.
Build the Network: Identify and recruit high-performing commercial lines agencies and brokers who specialize in our core and adjacent verticals (self-storage, light industrial, marinas, hangars, etc).
Onboard & Activate: Lead the appointment process. After signing producer agreements; you’ll train producers on how to use the Etude portal to quote and bind business in minutes and ensure they are successfully utilizing our platform and understand our appetite.
Relationship Management: Act as the primary point of contact for our producer partners. Conduct regular account reviews, provide appetite updates, and gather feedback to improve our product. Be hyper responsive to their needs and obsessed with making them successful working with Etude.
Product Advocacy: Educate producers on our insurance products and technology advantage — showing them how our data-driven underwriting and faster turnaround times leads to better pricing and faster commissions for them.
Drive Premium Growth: Own the entire pipeline from initial submission through to bind. You will partner closely with our underwriters to ensure high-quality risks are being prioritized.
Own Program Business: Build distribution/referral relationships with our existing property management customers and other relevant industry parties.
The Connector: You have strong commercial property insurance contacts and know how to navigate the hierarchy of a large brokerage.
The Industry Guru: You understand commercial P&C fundamentals but are bored by legacy systems. You’re excited to show brokers a better way to work.
The Strategist: You proactively identify the best opportunities & build a plan to capture them.
Experience: 5+ years in insurance distribution, agency management, or wholesale brokerage. Active surplus lines producer license is highly preferred (or relevant surplus lines experience.)
To ensure this person is successful, you should measure them on:
New Appointments: Number of high-quality agencies signed per month.
Submission Flow: Volume of "Qualified Submissions" coming through the broker channel.
Activation Rate: The percentage of appointed agencies that bind at least one policy within their first 60 days.
Retention: Year-over-year renewal rate of the broker-produced book of business.
If you don't have all the qualifications listed, don't worry! We understand everyone's career path is unique and still encourage you to apply if you feel this role is aligned with your career trajectory.
Employment at Etude is contingent upon a satisfactory verification of a general and criminal background check.
