Job Title: Accounting Manager/Comptroller 

Type of Position: Full Time

Location: Fully Remote

Pay: 100k- 145k

Job Description:

We are seeking an experienced Accounting Manager or Controller to lead the financial operations of a busy, high-volume Personal Injury law firm. This individual will oversee the firm's full accounting function, including trust (IOLTA) accounting, case cost tracking, financial reporting, and internal controls, while partnering closely with firm leadership to support strategic decision-making.

Core duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned:

• Oversee day-to-day accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and general ledger management
• Manage and reconcile attorney trust (IOLTA) accounts in compliance with state bar and legal trust accounting requirements
• Prepare and analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements for firm leadership
• Develop and monitor firm-wide budgets, cash flow projections, and financial forecasts
• Supervise, train, and mentor accounting and bookkeeping staff
• Ensure compliance with GAAP, firm policies, and applicable state and federal regulations
• Coordinate with outside auditors, tax preparers, and banking institutions
• Design and maintain internal controls to safeguard firm assets and ensure accurate reporting
• Track and reconcile case costs and manage settlement disbursement accounting specific to personal injury litigation
• Analyze case and department profitability, providing financial insights to attorneys and partners
• Identify and implement process improvements to increase efficiency and accuracy across the accounting function
• Prepare ad hoc financial reports and analysis as requested by the executive team

Requirements:

• Bachelor's degree in accounting, Finance, or related field required; CPA a plus
• 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, with prior law firm experience strongly preferred (Personal Injury a plus)
• Strong working knowledge of trust/IOLTA accounting and legal billing practices
• Proven experience managing a full-cycle accounting function and leading an accounting team
• Proficiency with legal practice management/accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Filevine, Litify, or similar)
• Advanced Excel skills, with experience in financial modeling and reporting
• Solid understanding of GAAP and internal controls
• Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
• High level of integrity and discretion when handling confidential financial information
• Strong communication skills with the ability to work cross-functionally with attorneys and staff
• Ability to thrive under pressure in a fast-paced, high-volume law firm environment
