The role acts as the technical integration authority on-site, ensuring mechanical, electrical, and control systems are fully validated and ready for commissioning. Responsibilities include interpreting technical designs, verifying equipment configurations, and managing site-level readiness through testing and documentation.
Mainspring Energy manufactures and delivers fuel-flexible, low-emissions local power solutions that rapidly add new capacity and deliver reliable, affordable, and sustainable electric power. The company began commercial shipments of its Mainspring Linear Generators in 2020 and today has hundreds of megawatts in advanced development and field operations for leading Fortune 500 companies, data centers, and utilities. Mainspring also partners with global energy leaders including AEP, NextEra Energy Resources, Schneider Electric, and more.
The core values that ground our work, guide our decisions, and connect us together:
Site Integration Engineers report to the Project Engineering Manager within the Project Delivery department. A key enabler of Mainspring’s mission is the ability of its team to deliver solutions based on our linear generator technology that solve customer problems in the cross-section of resiliency and clean power supply.
The project engineering team provides the technical expertise, guidance, and support to deploy linear generators into the field efficiently—building customer confidence and enabling future scalability. This role owns site-level readiness after construction is complete, ensuring that all mechanical, electrical, control, and communication systems are fully integrated, validated, and ready to transition into commissioning and operation. Generator commissioning is performed by a separate team; this role ensures the site is ready for it. Acting as the technical integration authority on site, this role bridges engineering design intent and real-world system operation.
This role will be responsible for:
Interpreting technical project details, including scopes of work, sequences of operation, control narratives, and engineering drawings (site plans, P&IDs, single-line, and three-line diagrams), and serving as the controls subject matter expert in design reviews
Verifying relay settings, meter configurations, and controller programming delivered by third-party integrators against approved settings files and design documents
Owning site readiness on assigned projects by validating installation quality and accuracy of balance-of-plant systems such as fuel, electrical, metering, protection relays, and communications; developing punch lists and driving issues to closure when discrepancies are found
Validating electrical and mechanical installations against drawings and specifications by witnessing and/or reviewing results of checks such as wiring and termination verification, grounding, insulation resistance and continuity testing, phase rotation, and electrical acceptance test (NETA) reports; and equipment setting and anchoring, gas piping pressure and leak tests, purging, ventilation and exhaust, and fuel regulator setup
Configuring equipment and verifying functional readiness of site-level control and communication systems prior to energization, including troubleshooting industrial communication networks (e.g., Modbus TCP/IP, EtherNet/IP, Profibus, OPC-UA)
Supporting integration with customer PLC/SCADA/HMI platforms (e.g., Ignition, SEL RTAC, Siemens WinCC, AVEVA Wonderware, Rockwell FactoryTalk, Schneider EcoStruxure) for system monitoring and control
Coordinating handoff to the generator commissioning team, confirming all site-level prerequisites are complete before units are started, and keeping project stakeholders updated on readiness status and next steps
Planning Site Acceptance Testing (SAT) and system-level validation, defining acceptance criteria for customer and utility witness testing, and confirming that as-built operation matches design intent
Supporting Permission to Operate (PTO) by compiling documentation based on utility requirements and building an accurate submission package for the Interconnection team to issue to the utility
Owning site QA/QC documentation and ensuring systems are fully validated and ready for turnover to operations and the customer
Establishing repeatable processes, including ready-for-commissioning and ready-for-testing checklists, lookahead dashboards, SAT templates, equipment configuration and how-to guides, site procedures, etc
Travelling to project sites as needed to confirm readiness and perform necessary testing
B.S. degree in Electrical, Controls, Mechatronics, or a related engineering discipline. Equivalent field experience may be substituted
5+ years in pre-commissioning, site commissioning, field applications, or controls engineering on power generation, battery storage, solar, microgrid, or industrial facility projects
Experience configuring, integrating, and troubleshooting devices and platforms such as:
Protective relays and automation controllers: SEL (relays, RTAC), GE Multilin, Beckwith, or ABB.
Revenue and power quality meters: SEL-735, Schneider ION, GE kV2c, or Itron
PLCs: Allen-Bradley ControlLogix/CompactLogix, Siemens S7, or Schneider Modicon
SCADA/HMI: Ignition, Siemens WinCC, AVEVA (Wonderware), or Rockwell FactoryTalk View
Working knowledge of industrial communication protocols (Modbus TCP/IP, EtherNet/IP, Profibus, OPC-UA, DNP3) and OT networking
Ability to interpret single-line and three-line diagrams, P&IDs, control narratives, and sequences of operation
Understanding of balance-of-plant systems, including fuel/gas, low- and medium-voltage electrical, metering, protection, and communications, with the ability to read construction plan sets and acceptance test reports and a working knowledge of NEC and NFPA 37/54
Experience planning and documenting Site Acceptance Testing and supporting utility witness testing for PTO
Familiarity with field safety practices and energization standards and procedures (e.g., NFPA 70E, lockout/tagout), including Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures and arc flash hazard awareness
Strong analytical problem-solving skills with the ability to safely use standard electrical test equipment (multimeters, phase rotation meter, network cable/fiber tester, power quality analyzers) in an active construction or live-plant environment
Strong documentation and communication skills, and comfortable coordinating contractors, integrators, and customers on site
Self-directed, with an ownership mindset and enthusiasm for building repeatable processes within a growing team
