AI Summary

The analyst will develop and maintain global supply-demand forecasts for DRAM, HBM, and NAND Flash markets to provide actionable intelligence to clients. They will also track supplier capacity, technology transitions, and competitive positioning to support evidence-based research and client interactions.

About this Role:

Analysts create must-have insights for our clients through published research and client interaction. You will meet with clients every day: on the phone, in a videoconference, from the stage at a Gartner event, or face-to-face during a sales support visit. In every interaction, you will help clients overcome their challenges and perform better.

As part of Gartner’s Emerging Market Dynamics Group, you will equip leaders in the semiconductor memory industry with indispensable insights, advice, and tools to achieve their mission-critical priorities and build the successful organizations of tomorrow. You will own the authoritative quantitative view of the global DRAM, HBM and NAND Flash markets and convert supply, demand, pricing and technology signals into decision-useful market intelligence.

What You’ll do:

  • Develop and maintain global DRAM, HBM and NAND supply-demand forecasts, including bit growth, wafer capacity, utilization, yields, inventories and pricing.
  • Track supplier capacity, capex, technology transitions and competitive positioning across Samsung, SK hynix, Micron, Kioxia, SanDisk and emerging suppliers.
  • Forecast market size, revenue, units/bits, ASPs and supplier market share by major memory segment.
  • Quantify demand across AI/data center, enterprise storage, PCs, smartphones, automotive and other major applications.
  • Track DRAM technology transitions including DDR5, LPDDR and HBM generations, capacity allocation and HBM production economics.
  • Track NAND transitions including layer scaling, TLC/QLC mix, enterprise SSD adoption, client SSD and embedded/mobile applications.
  • Analyze memory cycles, inventory corrections, pricing inflections and structural supply-demand changes.
  • Maintain quarterly market trackers, forecast models, source databases and scenario analysis.
  • Provide evidence-based written responses and support VP/market-intelligence-level client conversations.
  • Partner with analysts covering AI accelerators, foundry, advanced packaging and storage to quantify cross-market dependencies.
  • Identify early indicators that could invalidate the current forecast and proactively revise assumptions and outlooks.
  • Actively participate in appropriate Gartner global research communities for formal and in-formal knowledge sharing sessions.

Core Quantitative Coverage :

You are capable of modeling and forecasting:

  • DRAM / HBM: wafer capacity and utilization, bit output and bit growth, die density and technology-node transitions, HBM stacks, capacity and GB/device, DDR/LPDDR/HBM mix, supplier market share, contract and spot pricing, revenue and ASP, and AI-server and accelerator-driven memory demand.
  • NAND Flash: wafer capacity and utilization, bits/wafer and layer transitions, TLC/QLC mix, bit supply and demand, supplier market share, pricing and revenue, enterprise/client SSD units and capacity, mobile/embedded NAND, and AI-storage demand including RAG, KV-cache and checkpointing use cases.
  • Research Boundaries: This role owns the semiconductor memory-market quantitative truth layer. It does not own broad AI accelerator strategy, semiconductor foundry strategy, advanced packaging market strategy, server/storage-system architecture, or the general semiconductor equipment coverage. However, the analyst must quantify how developments in these adjacent markets affect memory demand, supply and economics.

Job Requirements :

What you will need

  • Educational Qualification:
  • BE/BTech from Grade A engineering colleges with specialization in Electronics, or Semiconductors, or software engineering.
  • Graduate + MBA (Marketing or Ops) from leading A & B-schools is desirable.
  • Work experience:
  • 7-10+ years minimum experience in semiconductor memory, market intelligence, product planning, business planning, forecasting or industry research.
  • Domain knowledge/Business Acumen:
  • Deep expertise in DRAM and/or NAND Flash, with the ability to develop credible coverage across both.
  • Strong understanding of memory manufacturing economics, technology migration, supplier capacity and pricing cycles.
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain quantitative market models and forecasts.
  • Experience with memory suppliers, semiconductor market-research firms, OEMs/hyperscalers or relevant supply-chain organizations preferred.
  • Awareness of the major issues across the IT, technology, semiconductor and electronics industry affecting software technologies and competitive landscape, and an eagerness to learn more.
  • MS Office Tools:
  • Ability to design, develop and maintain large Excel models for market share analysis and forecasting, and strong working knowledge of other MS Office tools such as Word and Power Point for writing and presenting analysis.
  • Project management skills:
  • Ability to manage time, keep projects on schedule and resolve issues and deliver all client deliverables in a timely manner.
  • Communication skills:
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to translate complex market data into clear implications.
  • Written: A strong writing ability is mandatory. Writing efforts will require stating/staking positions, justifying those positions with facts and providing actionable analysis and recommendations.
  • Oral: Skills to converse on telephone, face to face, and on-stage, with the ability to explain complex concepts concisely.
  • Problem Solving:
  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to think creatively, independently, and efficiently to diagnose and contextualize issues, exhibit critical-thinking and problem-solving capabilities, including working on estimation problems and provide insightful and original analysis.
  • Interpersonal skills:

  • Strong client presence and ability to relate to a variety of company and personality types is a must - ability to represent Gartner research, methodology and strategies at multiple levels (Board, C-Level, Business Unit and Operational) and multiple client organization types (End User Client, Investors, Technology and Service Providers, Resellers, Channel Partners).
  • Ability to organize effectively, drive for results, collaborate productively, coach and develop colleagues where required – provide constructive feedback to peers as well as be receptive to feedback from peers.
