About the Team & Opportunity

The Devices team builds Clever's integrations with the operating systems students use in the classroom: iOS, macOS, Windows, and ChromeOS. Our work spans web identity standards like OIDC and SAML and native code in Swift and C++, including Platform SSO apps for each OS and a browser extension. Students are our primary users, teachers are secondary, and IT admins set up and configure these integrations for their schools.

As a Senior Software Engineer on this team, you will build features across that surface, from backend services to native device clients.

How You’ll Make an Impact

  • The problem you'll solve: Students lose class time when signing in to a shared school device is slow or breaks. You will build device integrations that get them into their learning apps quickly and securely, and that IT admins can set up and manage without friction.
  • Who you'll partner with: You will work closely with Product and Design on features, and with IT admins and Customer Support to understand how these integrations behave in real districts. You will also mentor peers through code reviews and technical leadership.
  • What success looks like: Features and integrations ship reliably and are adopted by districts. Your code is easy to maintain and well tested, and you help the team keep the login systems schools rely on stable.
  • Key projects you'll lead: You will drive work across native clients (Swift, C++) and the services behind them. Near-term projects include Platform SSO for macOS, Googlebooks login support, and Apple School Manager integration.

What We’re Looking For

Required Skills & Experience (Must-Haves):

  • Engineering Foundation: 4+ years of professional experience as a Software Engineer with a strong foundation in software engineering principles and device-centric experience.
  • Device Development: Professional experience building native applications for Windows, or supporting Windows environments. Experience with another platform (iOS, macOS, ChromeOS) is a plus.
  • Server-Side Device Management: Experience with MDM platforms (Intune, Jamf), setting up and troubleshooting Entra/Azure environments, or integrating with Apple School Manager.
  • Project Leadership: Proven ability to lead complex projects from design to deployment, collaborating effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • System Design: Experience architecting end-to-end systems that solve complex product needs and handle diverse data requirements.
  • Quality & Reliability: A strong commitment to modular, extensible, testable code. You apply design patterns, refactor to pay down tech debt, and automate tests (unit and end-to-end).
  • Cultural Alignment: A commitment to understand and prioritize the Clever engineering culture (see our blog post on Defining Clever's Engineering Culture).

Preferred Qualifications (Nice-to-Haves):

  • Technical Stack: Experience with our tech stack, which includes Swift, C++, Go, TypeScript, Node.js, and React, using AWS services such as lambdas, step functions and SQS, and databases/storage such as DynamoDB, S3, and MongoDB.
  • Platform Breadth: Experience developing for at least one of iOS, macOS, Windows, and ChromeOS.
  • System Stability: Comfort with participating in an on-call rotation to ensure the stability of the critical login systems that schools rely on daily.
  • AI Development Tools: Familiarity with leveraging AI coding tools (such as Claude Code or Cursor) to enhance development workflows, productivity, and code quality.

Benefits & Perks

  • Competitive salary
  • Flexible PTO and Paid Parental Leave
  • Comprehensive health, vision, and dental coverage
  • Mental healthcare services
  • Professional development budget
  • Annual company retreat + team events
