AI Summary

The Senior Content Writer will produce high-quality editorial content, including thought leadership and brand narratives, while co-owning the company newsletter. They will also provide editorial support to the team, collaborate across departments, and maintain the brand's editorial voice.

Grey is a fast-growing company building the future of global banking for a borderless world. We provide multi-currency accounts, instant international transfers, and virtual cards that enable individuals and businesses to manage money across borders as easily as in their local currency. We serve digital nomads, remote workers, freelancers, international students, entrepreneurs, and anyone whose financial life crosses borders.

Licensed and regulated in multiple countries, Grey is expanding rapidly across global markets. We’re a remote company with staff around the world.

The opportunity

As our Senior Content Writer, you will be one of the most experienced writers on Grey's content team, producing our highest-quality editorial work while helping raise the standard of everything the team publishes. This is not a volume role. It’s a quality-first editorial role with real influence over how Grey tells stories.

You will write the pieces that define Grey's voice: thought leadership, brand storytelling, feature narratives, and editorially-led content that sets us apart from generic fintech copy. You will also co-own Grey's branded newsletter, develop content briefs that guide the wider writing team, and provide first-pass editorial review on other writers' drafts before they reach the Head of Content Strategy.

Grey is building a premium, editorially-led brand. We write like a publication, not a startup blog. If you care about craft, if you edit your own work before anyone asks, and if you can write something that feels expensive without trying too hard, this role will give you the platform and the audience to do your best work.

This is a full-time role. You will report to the Head of Content Strategy and work closely with the SEO manager, Product Marketing, Social Media, and Video teams.

What you'll do at Grey includes, but is not limited to:

  • Writing and editorial production
    • Write 2 to 3 articles per week, prioritising strategic, editorially demanding pieces: thought leadership, brand storytelling, feature narratives, and long-form editorial.
    • Source and interview interesting people, especially freelancers, founders, remote workers, digital nomads, and members of Grey’s community.
    • Produce landing page copy, product launch content, and feature announcements as needed.
    • Write in Grey's editorial voice consistently: confident, clear, human, premium. No corporate filler. No generic fintech tone.
    • Self-edit rigorously. Your first drafts should require light editing, not rewriting.
  • Newsletter ownership
    • Co-own The Gig Economy (Grey's branded newsletter) end-to-end: editorial planning, drafting, production, and send.
    • Develop the newsletter's editorial identity and grow its value to readers over time.
    • Identify stories from Grey’s blog, community, and wider conversations that can become engaging newsletter content.
    • Track newsletter performance and iterate on format, content mix, and tone based on data.
  • Editorial support and quality
    • Provide first-pass editorial review of contract writers' drafts before they go to the Head of Content Strategy. Flag quality issues, structural problems, and voice inconsistencies.
    • Contribute to editorial planning by surfacing story ideas, trends, people, and conversations Grey should be covering.
    • Help maintain and evolve Grey's editorial style guide and writing standards.
  • Content surfaces
    • Blog and long-form editorial, including SEO-driven articles and thought leadership.
    • Interviews, profiles, money diaries, reported features, first-person stories, data stories, and opinion pieces.
    • Product and feature content: launch announcements, landing pages, in-app copy.
    • Campaign copy as needed for major initiatives.
    • Event content and partner activations as assigned.
    • Grey Business (B2B) content: case studies and product narratives as needed.
  • Cross-functional collaboration
    • Work with the SEO manager to ensure content meets search intent and optimisation requirements without compromising editorial quality.
    • Support the Social Media Lead and Video Marketing Lead with copy and narrative direction when needed.
    • Collaborate with Product Marketing on feature positioning and go-to-market content.
    • Work with community-facing teams to identify contributors, interview subjects, and stories from Grey’s user base.
    • Coordinate translation requirements for multilingual content.

Reporting structure

  • Reports to: CML

You’ll be a great fit if you meet these criteria:

  • 3+ years of professional writing experience in content marketing, editorial, journalism, or brand communications
  • A portfolio that shows range: you can write a compelling reported feature, profile, or interview and a product landing page and a newsletter, and all three sound like the same brand wrote them.
  • Strong editorial judgment. You can spot what’s actually interesting in a topic, find the strongest angle, and know when a draft needs more reporting or development. This includes work, culture, travel, people, cities, careers, and lifestyle.
  • Experience writing for digital audiences with an understanding of how people read online
  • Working knowledge of SEO principles. You can write to a keyword brief without making the piece feel like it was written for an algorithm.
  • You are reliable, organised, and deadline-driven. You deliver on time without being chased
  • Clear, direct communication. You ask questions early, flag blockers immediately, and don't disappear when things get hard
  • Experience reviewing or editing other writers' work is a strong plus
  • You read widely and your writing reflects influences beyond fintech and SaaS content
  • Excellent written and verbal communication. You write clearly, concisely, and in a human voice. No corporate jargon
  • You are proactive, organized, and direct. You flag problems early, communicate honestly, and do not need to be micromanaged
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills with the ability to influence senior leadership and cross-functional stakeholders
  • Proven ability to work effectively in remote-first environments with distributed international teams

Nice to have:

  • Experience in fintech, financial services, or a regulated industry
  • Background in editorial, publishing, lifestyle brands, or culture-forward companies
  • Experience building or contributing to recurring editorial franchises/series
  • Experience writing B2B content (case studies, product pages, sales enablement)
  • Experience with email marketing and newsletter production
  • Familiarity with CMS platforms, content management workflows, and editorial tools
  • Understanding of digital nomad, remote work, and freelancer communities
  • Multilingual writing capabilities relevant to Grey's target markets

What’s in it for you:

  • None of us would go to work for free, so we ensure that your salary correctly compensates you for your time.
  • We become invested in your growth and provide you with access to a professional development budget for courses, conferences, certifications, and skill-enhancement opportunities.
  • When you need time away to re-group, we’ll make it happen and pay you for your time off.
  • Benefit from our great people culture and work alongside the most incredible team at Grey
  • Meet your wonderful teammates and relax at our yearly team offsite.
