The Referral Research VA is responsible for building and maintaining a secondary treatment provider network through high-volume outbound calling. This includes verifying provider availability, confirming insurance acceptance, and accurately documenting all gathered information in the company directory.
This is a remote position.
We are looking for a Referral Research VA who will help build and maintain an out-of-state secondary treatment provider (STP) referral network.
This is a high-volume outbound calling and research role. As patient cases come in, you will contact secondary treatment providers, confirm whether they accept workers’ compensation patients and new referrals, gather their referral requirements, and accurately document the information in the company’s referral directory.
The role requires someone who is comfortable making outbound calls, speaking professionally with medical offices, researching information, and maintaining highly accurate records.
Key Responsibilities
Make script-based outbound calls to secondary treatment providers (STPs) as patient cases come in.
Contact medical providers and offices to verify referral availability and requirements.
Confirm whether providers accept workers’ compensation patients.
Confirm whether providers are currently accepting new patients/referrals.
Gather referral requirements, intake procedures, documentation requirements, and other relevant information.
Research provider information when additional details are needed.
Accurately document call results and provider information in the company’s referral directory.
Keep provider records organized, complete, and up to date.
Follow established calling scripts, workflows, and documentation procedures.
Make follow-up calls when additional information or confirmation is needed.
Escalate unclear or unusual situations according to the established process.
Maintain a high level of accuracy when handling a large volume of provider records.
Previous experience in outbound calling, healthcare administration, medical front desk, referral coordination, insurance verification, provider research, or a similar role.
Comfortable making frequent outbound calls to medical offices and healthcare providers.
Strong spoken English and professional phone communication skills.
Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
Able to follow scripts and established processes consistently.
Comfortable researching information online and verifying details.
Strong documentation and data-entry skills.
Comfortable working with spreadsheets, directories, CRM systems, or similar databases.
Able to handle repetitive, high-volume tasks without sacrificing accuracy.
Reliable internet connection and a suitable work-from-home setup.
Able to work full-time during the required schedule.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience working with workers’ compensation patients, claims, referrals, or providers.
Experience with medical referrals or provider networks.
Experience with insurance verification or healthcare scheduling.
Experience contacting medical offices to verify insurance, referrals, or provider availability.
Familiarity with U.S. healthcare terminology and medical office workflows.
Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate is comfortable on the phone, highly organized, detail-oriented, and consistent. This role is not simply about making calls—the information collected needs to be accurate enough for the healthcare team to rely on when coordinating patient referrals.
