Job Details: Job Location: Portland, OR - Portland, OR, Position Type: Full Time, Salary Range: $45000.00 - $60000.00Base+Commission/month, Why Choose Mallory?
For more than 40 years, Mallory has provided safety expertise and supply chain efficiency, along with a broad array of safety products and solutions. We apply thought and creativity to build best-in-class solutions, and that approach has helped us quadruple in size over the last 20 years. We are the largest independently held safety distribution company, with 35+ locations and over 600 employees.
Mallory has always been family-owned and privately held. Our business is built around the customer, and we thrive by providing basic service brilliance. We offer a casual work environment, professional development and promotion opportunities. Thirty-three core values guide our intentional, employee-centric culture. We are looking for dedicated, motivated and smart people to grow with us.
About the Public Safety Team
Since 2011, Mallory has been a supplier on the OMNIA Partners Public Safety, Preparedness, Safety Equipment and Solutions cooperative contract. Police departments, sheriff's offices, fire departments, USAR and HazMat teams, public works, hospitals and universities use it to buy from Mallory without running their own bid process. For agencies working against grant deadlines and tight budgets, that is often the difference between spending the money and losing it.
Our government team sells the full public safety line (duty gear, ballistic protection, tactical and K-9 equipment, SCBA and respiratory, turnout gear, rescue and confined space, gas detection, traffic safety, emergency response equipment) along with service, repair, training and custom fire apparatus fabrication. We sell it through OMNIA and other cooperative vehicles to state, local and education (SLED) agencies across the country.
The Role
As an Account Manager on the Government team, you will grow Mallory's business with public safety and public sector agencies, with the OMNIA Partners contract as the primary vehicle. You will open new agencies, expand existing ones across departments, and move quotes through to closed orders, working closely with our Public Safety customer service team, our vendors and the OMNIA Partners field team.
This is an inside seat with a hunting component. Success here comes from outcomes: opportunities created, pipeline built, quotes won and profit earned. Activity is how you get there, not what we measure you on. Dependent on performance, the role offers career development.
How You Will Make an Impact
Open new agencies and expand existing ones through outbound calls, email, virtual meetings and targeted outreach to chiefs, sheriffs, command staff, purchasing officers and procurement departments
Present the OMNIA Partners contract to agencies that have not used it, including walking procurement and legal staff through eligibility, how the cooperative contract satisfies competitive solicitation requirements, and how to set up their account
Grow across departments within a city or county (police, fire, corrections, public works, utilities, parks, emergency management), where each department often buys separately
Respond quickly and accurately to quote requests, RFQs and informal bids, and know when a formal bid is worth chasing
Help agencies spend grant funding (AFG, SAFER, UASI, State Homeland Security and similar) on schedule by putting complete quotes and documentation in front of them
Consolidate large lists of agency requirements across multiple manufacturers into one contract and one order
Work with manufacturer partners to bring in samples, demos, product training and pricing support for agency evaluations
Keep Dynamics CRM current: accounts, contacts, opportunities and next steps
Support contract compliance, including accurate pricing, sales reporting and OMNIA administrative requirements
Work alongside OMNIA Partners field representatives and Mallory's outside sales team to pursue agencies together
Stay current on public safety products, procurement trends, funding programs and competitor activity
What We Are Looking For
2+ years of sales experience selling to government or public sector buyers
Experience selling to law enforcement, fire/EMS or other public safety agencies, or selling safety/PPE products
Working knowledge of public procurement: RFQs, formal bids, purchase orders, sole source, and how agencies fund purchases
Comfort with high-volume outbound prospecting and the rejection that comes with it
Strong written and verbal communication; quotes and emails that are fast, accurate and clear
Self-discipline to hold a number and manage your own day, including working remotely
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Proficiency with a CRM and Microsoft Office
Experience selling through cooperative purchasing contracts (OMNIA Partners, Sourcewell, TIPS, NASPO ValuePoint, state contracts, GSA)
Experience with law enforcement, fire or emergency response products or end users
Familiarity with government grant programs and grant-driven purchasing timelines
Experience with bid portals and tools such as Bonfire, BidNet, OpenGov, SAM.gov or GovSpend
Background as a first responder, in public safety administration, or in government procurement
Knowledge of Mallory's product categories, including fall protection and rescue, gas detection, respiratory and SCBA, and duty gear
