The Product Owner will drive internal technical product operations and Agile execution, working cross-functionally with engineering to build and launch features that support Smile’s commitment to Better Global Health. By partnering closely with market-focused Product Managers, the Technical Product Manager translates high-level market strategies and roadmaps into actionable development plans and Quarterly Workplans for Smile’s flagship clinical data repository.

This role focuses heavily on internal delivery for assigned product(s) line(s)—transforming business requirements into clear user stories, actively managing the product backlog, and ensuring engineering teams are unblocked and aligned with the overarching product vision. Rather than focusing primarily on direct market research, the Technical Product Manager bridges the gap between external market strategy and internal development processes by leading products through the Smile Product Realization Process, ensuring a streamlined product development lifecycle and high-value technical delivery.

Responsibilities:

Lead products through the "Smile Product Realization Process", including but not limited to, collaborating with peers to support efforts in Marketing, Revenue Operations, Licensing, Training, Legal, and more.
Own the product backlog and monthly/quarterly cadence – write user stories and acceptance criteria, prioritize feature development, plan iterations, and minimize roadblocks for engineers.
Facilitate core Scrum ceremonies, including but not limited to, Sprint Planning, Daily Stand-ups, Sprint Reviews, and Sprint Retrospectives.
Act as a subject matter expert for all technical aspects of the product suites for the engineering team by identifying and removing complex technical and organizational roadblocks that impede sprint progress.
Guide cross-functional teams in Agile methodologies and Scrum best practices to foster a culture of continuous improvement, self-organization, and high performance.
Set clear expectations with customers and development teams in terms of priorities and product requirements.
Ensure thorough understanding of current product offerings, target clients, product capabilities and limitations.
Be the product expert on the assigned platform and products, and understand the interdependencies between various parts of the system.
Evaluate the feasibility of requirements, considering capabilities and limitations.
Track, analyze, and communicate team velocity, sprint progress, and agile metrics to ensure the team is meeting defined goals and objectives.
Actively listen to client needs/complaints to address potential issues and offer viable solutions/alternatives.
Clearly communicate the product vision and sprint goals across the broader team to ensure alignment.
Help guide product decisions through user testing and iterative feedback loops.
Collaborate with various resource managers on resource planning and achieving goals.
Support the identification and build of new and/or optimizing processes and tools supporting product management and agile delivery.
Provide support in the hiring process and onboarding of new team members, as needed.

Requirements:

6+ years of technical product management, product owner, and/or product management related experience combined with a strong understanding of the software development lifecycle.
Post-secondary education in a relevant field and/or equivalent working experience.
Demonstrated ability to have a user-centric mindset throughout the product development process
Previous experience in applied knowledge of user testing and validation techniques
Proven experience and ability to collaborate effectively with clients, UX specialists, engineers, sales, marketing, and other key contacts
Previous consultative experience in client-facing roles in product development or management
Critical thinking skills with a solution-oriented mindset is required, along with demonstrated ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams
Demonstrated abilities to be self-directed, proactive, and results-oriented, along with being effective time-management skills
Effective communication skills, ability to influence and guide solutions as well as translating complex technical concepts to various audiences.
Formal training in a reputable product management framework, preferred
Software architecture/development / technical implementation experience, preferred
Possess a strong understanding of technical/data vocabulary, strongly preferred.

- Security (OAuth2 / OIDC / SAML / LDAP)

- Master Data Management / EMPI
- Terminology Standards (e.g. LOINC, SNOMED, UCUM, ICD-10)
- Consent Management
- Clinical Reasoning

$120,000 - $130,000 a year
