Private Equity and Alternative Asset Accounting and Reporting Lead

The Lead Alternative Investments Accounting Analyst is responsible for leading the accounting and reporting activities for the company's alternative investment portfolio, including private equity, limited partnerships, rated note feeders, and tax credit investments. This role serves as a technical leader within the Investment Accounting team, overseeing key accounting, reporting, disclosure, and control processes related to alternative investments under both GAAP and Statutory accounting frameworks.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in investment accounting and financial reporting, along with the ability to lead others through complex accounting and disclosure matters. This position combines technical accounting responsibilities with people leadership and oversight of two direct reports. The role partners closely with Financial Reporting, Tax, Actuarial, Investment Operations, Internal Audit, investment managers, and external service providers to ensure accurate accounting records, financial statement disclosures, and reporting of investment activity.

Your responsibilities

Lead the accounting and reporting processes for alternative investments, including private equity, limited partnerships, rated note feeders, tax credit investments, and other alternative asset classes
Review and analyze complex investment transactions to ensure appropriate accounting treatment under GAAP and Statutory accounting guidance
Review and approve journal entries, account reconciliations, investment schedules, and supporting documentation related to alternative investments and other invested assets
Lead the preparation and review of quarterly and annual investment reporting packages, financial statement schedules, and alternative investment disclosures
Partner with Financial Reporting teams to ensure the accurate presentation and disclosure of investment activity within GAAP and Statutory financial statements
Perform technical accounting research, document accounting conclusions, and provide guidance on new or complex investment transactions
Lead, coach, and mentor two direct reports, providing technical guidance, workload prioritization, and development opportunities while reviewing work for accuracy and completeness
Perform and review analyses of investment results, including capital calls, distributions, valuation changes, equity method income, impairments, and realized and unrealized gains and losses
Partner with Investment Operations, Tax, Actuarial, investment managers, custodians, and third-party service providers to resolve accounting, reporting, valuation, and operational issues
Serve as a key liaison with internal and external auditors and support audit requests, financial reporting requirements, control activities, and accounting documentation
Identify and lead process improvements, automation opportunities, and cross-functional projects to enhance the efficiency, accuracy, and scalability of investment accounting and reporting operations

Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
7+ years of progressive accounting and/or financial reporting experience with a strong focus on investments, alternative investments, or financial services
Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP and Statutory accounting principles applicable to investment portfolios and alternative investments
Experience accounting for and reporting on private equity investments, limited partnerships, hedge funds, tax credit investments, or other alternative asset classes
Demonstrated experience preparing or reviewing investment-related financial reporting, disclosures, management reporting, and supporting schedules
Experience supporting monthly, quarterly, and annual close and reporting cycles
Strong technical accounting research skills with the ability to interpret accounting guidance, document conclusions, and communicate impacts to stakeholders
Demonstrated ability to review and approve journal entries, account reconciliations, accounting analyses, disclosures, and supporting documentation
Experience analyzing investment results, including capital activity, valuation changes, equity method accounting, impairments, and realized and unrealized gains and losses
Ability to effectively communicate complex accounting and reporting concepts to leadership, auditors, business partners, investment managers, and external service providers
Experience leading projects, process improvement initiatives, system enhancements, or cross-functional efforts involving accounting and reporting functions
Experience coaching, mentoring, or supervising accounting professionals; prior responsibility for direct reports preferred
CPA designation preferred
Proven ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and maintain high-quality results in a fast-paced environment
