POSITION SUMMARY
Vero is seeking a detail-oriented and highly organized Payroll & Accounting Specialist to own the company's bi-weekly payroll process and support payroll-related compliance, accounting, and reporting across our growing organization.

This role will serve as the primary Finance owner of payroll, working closely with People Operations, Accounting, Operations, and business leaders to ensure employees are paid accurately and on time and that payroll-related accounting and compliance requirements are completed accurately and consistently.

Vero operates across multiple legal entities and jurisdictions and continues to grow through both organic expansion and acquisitions. As a result, this position requires someone who is comfortable managing deadlines, researching and resolving payroll issues, maintaining strong documentation, and adapting processes as the organization evolves.

While payroll will be the primary responsibility of this position, the Payroll & Accounting Specialist will also support payroll accounting, month-end close, reconciliations, audits, process improvements, and other Finance initiatives. The ideal candidate enjoys taking ownership, solving problems, improving processes, and working cross-functionally in a fast-paced and growing organization.

RESPONSIBILITIES
Payroll Administration & Processing
  • Own and execute Vero's bi-weekly payroll process, ensuring employees are paid accurately and on time.
  • Review payroll inputs, including new hires, terminations, compensation changes, bonuses, commissions, deductions, benefits, timekeeping, reimbursements, and other payroll adjustments.
  • Review employee time and payroll data for completeness and accuracy prior to payroll processing.
  • Coordinate with People Operations and business leaders to resolve payroll discrepancies and obtain required approvals.
  • Review payroll registers and supporting reports prior to final payroll submission.
  • Research and resolve employee payroll questions and discrepancies in a timely and professional manner.
  • Process off-cycle payrolls, corrections, and other payroll adjustments as necessary.
  • Maintain accurate payroll records and supporting documentation.
  • Support payroll activities associated with newly acquired businesses and employee transitions into Vero's payroll systems.
  • Develop and maintain standardized payroll procedures, checklists, calendars, and documentation.
Payroll Compliance
  • Support federal, state, and local payroll tax compliance across the jurisdictions in which Vero operates.
  • Monitor payroll tax registrations, filings, payments, and notices in coordination with payroll providers and internal stakeholders.
  • Research and assist with resolving payroll tax notices, discrepancies, and jurisdictional issues.
  • Support compliance with wage and hour requirements, payroll deductions, garnishments, and other payroll-related regulations.
  • Assist with quarterly and annual payroll reporting and reconciliations, including Forms 941, W-2s, and other required filings.
  • Coordinate year-end payroll activities and employee tax reporting.
  • Maintain organized payroll documentation to support internal controls, external audits, and regulatory requirements.
  • Stay informed of payroll-related regulatory changes and communicate potential impacts to Finance and People Operations.
Payroll Accounting & Month-End Close
  • Prepare and/or support payroll-related journal entries and account reconciliations.
  • Reconcile payroll registers to the general ledger and investigate differences.
  • Reconcile payroll-related balance sheet accounts, including accrued payroll, payroll taxes, benefits, deductions, and other payroll liabilities.
  • Assist with payroll accruals and other month-end and quarter-end close activities.
  • Partner with Accounting to ensure payroll expenses are recorded accurately across departments, cost centers, and legal entities.
  • Assist with payroll allocations and other accounting activities associated with Vero's multi-entity structure.
  • Support external audit requests and payroll-related financial reporting requirements.
Systems & Process Improvement
  • Help maintain and improve Vero's payroll, timekeeping, and related Finance processes.
  • Identify opportunities to automate manual payroll and accounting processes, strengthen controls, and improve efficiency.
  • Assist with payroll and timekeeping system implementations, integrations, testing, and enhancements.
  • Partner with People Operations, Finance Systems, Accounting, and Operations to improve payroll data accuracy and system workflows.
  • Develop scalable payroll processes that can support Vero's continued organic growth and future acquisitions.
  • Assist with the integration of newly acquired businesses into Vero's payroll, timekeeping, and accounting processes.
  • Maintain clear process documentation and identify opportunities to improve controls and reduce key-person dependency.
Accounting & Finance Support
  • Assist with month-end close activities and general accounting projects as needed.
  • Support account reconciliations, journal entries, reporting, and other accounting responsibilities.
  • Assist with employee-related expense and benefit reconciliations.
  • Support Finance initiatives, system implementations, acquisitions, and other special projects.
  • Partner across the Finance organization as priorities evolve and Vero continues to grow.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, Human Resources, or a related field; equivalent relevant experience may be considered.
  • 2+ years of payroll, accounting, or related experience.
  • Hands-on experience processing or supporting payroll.
  • Understanding of payroll taxes, deductions, benefits, and payroll-related compliance requirements.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
  • Ability to manage recurring, deadline-driven processes with limited supervision.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Ability to research discrepancies, identify root causes, and drive issues through resolution.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to handle confidential employee and compensation information with appropriate discretion.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Experience owning or independently processing bi-weekly payroll.
  • Experience supporting payroll across multiple states and legal entities.
  • Experience with Rippling or similar payroll and HRIS platforms.
  • Experience with timekeeping systems and payroll integrations.
  • NetSuite ERP experience.
  • Experience preparing payroll-related journal entries and account reconciliations.
  • Experience working in a growing, multi-entity organization.
  • Experience supporting mergers, acquisitions, or payroll integrations.
  • Telecommunications, broadband, infrastructure, construction, or similar industry experience.
  • Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) or Fundamental Payroll Certification (FPC), or interest in obtaining a payroll certification.
JOB DETAILS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
  • This role may require limited travel to attend meetings, trainings, acquisitions or special projects.

  • The schedule for this position is Monday through Friday.
  • This position requires the ability to sit and work at a desk for extended periods of time, using a computer and other office equipment.

COMPENSATION, BENEFITS AND ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
  • The anticipated hourly range for this position is $28.85 – $36.05 per hour. Final compensation will be determined based on factors such as the candidate's experience, skills, and internal equity.  For Colorado-based applicants, the pay range and benefits listed apply in accordance with the Colorado Equal Pay for Equal Work Act.
