Job Summary: The Military Ordnance Recognition (MOR) Instructor delivers New Mexico Tech EMRTC-approved training focused on the recognition, identification, hazards, and appropriate first-responder actions associated with military ordnance and unexploded ordnance (UXO). The Instructor must be a current or formerly qualified as a Public Safety Bomb Technician (Bomb Squad) or Military Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Technician and possess the operational credibility, technical knowledge, adult-learning skills, curriculum discipline, and safety focus required to train experienced first-responder audiences.

Responsibilities:
Deliver assigned EMRTC MOR curriculum in accordance with approved instructor guides, learning objectives, schedules, safety requirements, and customer standards.
Provide classroom, practical, demonstration, and scenario-based instruction on military ordnance recognition, UXO hazards, identification characteristics, safety considerations, reporting, and first-responder actions.
Present technical content accurately, relate instruction to real-world bomb squad/EOD operations, and maintain approved course scope without introducing unauthorized procedures or techniques.
Facilitate discussions, knowledge checks, practical recognition exercises, student evaluations, and after-action feedback using established criteria.
Coordinate with the Program Manager, Lead Instructor, EMRTC representatives, host agencies, and fellow instructors; complete required attendance, time, travel, and course documentation.
Support instructor standardization, train-the-trainer events, observations, evaluations, refresher training, and curriculum review activities as required.
Required Qualifications:
Current or formerly qualified as a Public Safety Bomb Technician (Bomb Squad) or Military Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Technician.
Demonstrated operational experience identifying, evaluating, or responding to military ordnance, UXO, explosive hazards, or related incidents.
Previous adult education, technical training, public-safety instruction, bomb squad, or military instructor experience.
Strong knowledge of military ordnance recognition, explosive hazards, safety practices, and appropriate first-responder response considerations.
Strong presentation, facilitation, interpersonal, teamwork, and professional communication skills; ability to deliver standardized technical curriculum to experienced adult learners.
Ability and willingness to travel extensively, work non-standard hours when required, maintain a valid driver's license, and meet background screening and EMRTC instructor-approval requirements.
Preferred Qualifications:
Graduate of the FBI Hazardous Devices School (HDS), Naval School Explosive Ordnance Disposal (NAVSCOLEOD), or another recognized bomb technician/EOD qualification program.
Ten or more years of operational bomb squad, EOD, military ordnance, UXO, explosives, or related public-safety experience.
Recognized instructor certification and prior FEMA, DHS, NDPC, New Mexico Tech, or EMRTC training experience.
Experience teaching military ordnance identification, UXO awareness, explosive hazards, practical recognition exercises, field training, or scenario-based instruction.
Safety, Work Requirements, and Instructor Approval:
Comply with all EMRTC, customer, company, facility, range, course-specific, and explosives-safety requirements; immediately stop or report unsafe activity.
Handle ordnance training aids only when specifically trained, qualified, assigned, and authorized; wear required personal protective equipment.
Ability to stand for extended periods, work indoors and outdoors, walk uneven terrain, assist with training equipment, and travel by commercial air or ground transportation.
Instructor Approval:Employment does not independently authorize an individual to teach EMRTC MOR courses. Instructors must complete applicable EMRTC screening, qualification, train-the-trainer, observation, evaluation, and customer-approval requirements. Continued assignment depends on maintaining technical qualifications, instructional and safety standards, professionalism, reliability, teamwork, and availability.
