Job Title: Master Data Specialist Material Master

Job Description

We are seeking a Master Data Specialist to join the governance team and support material master data initiatives in preparation for a major ERP implementation. In this role, you will help centralize and standardize material and inventory data across multiple plants, ensuring accurate bills of material and consistent part information. You will work largely remotely, collaborating closely with quality and operations stakeholders to clean, validate, and structure data so it can be effectively used within enterprise systems.

Responsibilities

  • Support the governance team in centralizing and standardizing material master data in preparation for an ERP implementation.
  • Collaborate closely with the Quality Manager and other stakeholders to obtain accurate bill of material (BOM) details and related data.
  • Review and interpret BOM information received from multiple plants to determine whether the data is complete, consistent, and usable.
  • Consolidate and reconcile material, inventory, and parts data from different plants that currently operate independently and use different part numbers for the same items.
  • Identify inconsistencies in bills of material and material master records and work to resolve discrepancies through structured analysis and communication.
  • Extract data from Excel spreadsheets and transform it into formats and structures that can be read and ingested by enterprise systems.
  • Use intermediate Excel functions, including pivot tables and lookup formulas, to analyze, validate, and cleanse large data sets.
  • Maintain accuracy and integrity of material master data by systematically checking for errors, duplicates, and missing information.
  • Operate effectively in ambiguous situations, making sound judgments when requirements or data inputs are not fully defined.
  • Collaborate with plant and corporate teams to clarify data definitions, naming conventions, and standards for material and inventory records.
  • Support ongoing master data governance activities to ensure long-term consistency and quality of material master information.
  • Contribute to documentation of processes, data standards, and procedures related to material master and BOM management.
  • Participate in meetings and discussions related to ERP readiness, providing insights on data quality, structure, and requirements.
  • Assist with ad hoc data analysis and reporting to support decision-making during the ERP implementation and data cleanup efforts.

Essential Skills

  • Experience working with material, inventory, and/or parts data, ideally within a manufacturing or distribution environment.
  • Intermediate Excel skills, including the ability to create and use pivot tables and lookup functions (such as VLOOKUP, HLOOKUP, or similar).
  • Comfort working with large data sets and numerical information, with strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to operate effectively in ambiguous or grey situations, using judgment and problem-solving skills to move work forward.
  • Hands-on experience with at least one ERP system, with familiarity in how material master and inventory data are structured and maintained.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • SAP experience is a plus, particularly with material master and BOM-related modules.
  • Bachelors degree is a plus, especially in fields related to business, supply chain, data management, or information systems.
  • Prior experience participating in data cleanup or data migration initiatives for ERP implementations is beneficial.
  • Strong communication skills to collaborate with cross-functional teams across multiple locations.
  • Organizational skills to manage multiple data requests, tasks, and deadlines in a dynamic environment.
