Overview

FYI is seeking HR Assistants to support a large Federal agency's Office of Human Resources Management. You will support staffing specialists, candidates, and new employees through security processing, onboarding, E-Verify, and personnel action processing. The role calls for substantial knowledge of Federal HR regulations and technical support processes.

Responsibilities

  • Guide staffing specialists, applicants, and employees through security investigation processing, including the OPM e-QIP system, and track completion of required submissions.
  • Send candidates the required onboarding, personnel security, and employment forms and instructions; review submissions for completeness, legibility, and signatures; and follow up on missing items.
  • Coordinate with the agency's Security Office to track pending clearances, suitability determinations, and background investigations, and escalate delays or unresolved issues.
  • Support staffing specialists with job offer and start date coordination, confirm pre-employment steps are complete, and keep trackers current.
  • Assist with the first-day New Employee Orientation (NEO) program, including preparing materials and reviewing new hire forms and paperwork.
  • Validate Form I-9 through E-Verify, document case status, flag tentative nonconfirmations or mismatches, and upload results into the onboarding system.
  • Process a wide range of personnel actions, including details, temporary promotions, within-grade increases, changes in duty station, career ladder promotions, and conversions.
  • Enter and verify the correct nature of action (NOA), legal authority codes, effective dates, salary, and related data elements, applying OPM's Guide to Processing Personnel Actions (GPPA).
  • Maintain personnel files in eOPF and review service records for accuracy and completeness.
  • Provide general administrative support to HR branches and protect personally identifiable information (PII) at all times.

Required Qualifications

  • At least 1 year of Federal HR experience, including processing personnel actions and supporting onboarding.
  • Experience processing Federal personnel actions, including NOA and legal authority coding, using OPM's Guide to Processing Personnel Actions (GPPA).
  • Experience guiding applicants or employees through security investigation processing, including e-QIP.
  • Experience completing Form I-9 verification through E-Verify.
  • Experience supporting onboarding, job offer and start date coordination, and New Employee Orientation.
  • Experience maintaining personnel records in eOPF.
  • Strong attention to detail, organization, and written and oral communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Google Suite, Microsoft Office, Teams, SharePoint, Excel, and HR information systems.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust before starting work.
