Healthcare Instructional Designer

The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in nursing, clinical care, coding, clinical documentation, or healthcare audit education. This role will partner with a cross-cultural, fully remote team of Trainers and Subject Matter Experts to design advanced educational courses for clinical, coding, and audit teams across Payment Integrity programs, including DRG, clinical validation, outpatient, home health, etc. and related audit workflows. The Instructional Designer will create blended live and e-learning content using video, technical information, learner activities, case-based scenarios, knowledge and skills assessments, and other interactive tools. This role will support needs assessments, learning objective development, course design, curriculum updates, and training effectiveness evaluation. This is a remote office opportunity.

• Salary Range: $56k – $89k (based on experience, skills, and qualifications)
• Location: 100% Remote (U.S.-based)
• Up to 10% annual travel (for team meetings and limited client onsite engagements.)

Responsibilities

Design and develop engaging instructional training programs, including curricula, facilitator guides, learner guides, on-the-job training tools, training manuals, job aids, assessments, and e-learning modules to support effective knowledge acquisition and application.

• Collaborate with clinical, coding, quality, trainers, operations, and Payment Integrity Subject Matter Experts to ensure materials reflect current industry standards, client requirements, audit methodology, and operational needs.
• Incorporate updates from industry organizations and authoritative sources, such as Coding Clinic, AHIMA, AHA, CMS, LCD/NCD guidance, payer policy updates, and applicable coding and clinical documentation standards.
• Translate complex clinical, coding, documentation, claims, and audit concepts into clear, accurate, learner-friendly training content for new hires and experienced team members.
• Develop evaluation and feedback loops and continuously redesign content to address learner needs, improve knowledge retention, and optimize training outcomes.
• Maintain an updated curriculum library, version control process, training records, and reusable learning assets.
• Employ adult learning theory principles, multimedia tools, and learner-centered strategies in all content designs.
• Create visual, audio, and interactive learning tools that support remote learning and blended delivery models.
• Apply proven e-learning best practices for learner engagement and knowledge transfer, including simulations, case-based practical exercises, scenario-based knowledge checks, and skills assessments, as applicable.
• Ensure the instructional integrity, clinical accuracy, coding accuracy, and educational effectiveness of all training materials produced.
• Stay current on instructional design trends, healthcare audit training methods, regulatory and coding updates, compliance expectations, and Payment Integrity best practices.

Qualifications

Required Experience and Qualifications:

• 2-5 years of experience developing healthcare training content, preferably for clinical, coding, audit, clinical validation, claims, or Payment Integrity teams.
• Strong working knowledge of healthcare concepts such as medical record documentation, coding guidelines, claims review, audit workflows, payer policy, and clinical documentation requirements.
• Bachelor’s degree in Instructional Design, Education, Nursing, Health Information Management, Healthcare Administration, Organizational Development, or a related discipline preferred.
• Clinical, coding, or health information credential preferred, such as RN, RHIA, RHIT, CCS, CPC, CIC, CCDS, or equivalent relevant healthcare credential(s).
• Professional portfolio or work sample should be submitted with the resume and should demonstrate instructional design capability, healthcare content development, learner engagement, and assessment design. Candidates selected for interview should also be prepared to deliver a brief presentation as part of the interview process.

Knowledge and Skills:

• Excellent understanding of instructional design, adult learning theory, training evaluation, and learning measurement.
• Ability to simplify complex clinical, coding, audit, and operational concepts into clear, practical learning content.
• Strong interpersonal skills and excellent written and oral communication abilities in a cross-cultural, diverse environment.
• Ability to work in a dynamic and flexible environment where priorities, client needs, and deadlines may change.
• Strong attention to detail, analytical thinking, problem-solving skills, and commitment to accuracy in healthcare training content.
• Excellent planning and time management skills to ensure project deliverables are completed on schedule.
• Proficiency with technology-based collaboration and learning development tools, such as Microsoft Teams, SharePoint, PowerPoint, learning management systems, Articulate Rise, Articulate Storyline, Camtasia, or similar tools.
• Ability to build scenario-based learning, knowledge checks, practice cases, answer keys, facilitator resources, and measurable assessments aligned to operational performance expectations.

The posted base salary range is the hiring base salary range for this role. Final offers are based on several factors, including: the candidate's skills and experience, internal pay equity, work location, market conditions for the role, and the specific scope and responsibilities of the position.
