ABOUT THE ROLE 

The Head of Development is responsible for leading the organisation's strategic revenue growth agenda by developing and delivering a diversified funding and partnership strategy that supports the long-term sustainability and impact of AIGCC and IGCC. 

This newly created part time/full-time role will establish and lead a critical strategic development function that establishes and builds long-term relationships with philanthropic foundations, governments, multilateral institutions, corporate partners and other aligned funders across Asia, Australia, New Zealand and internationally. 

Reporting to the Director of Operations, the Head of Development works in close partnership with the CEO, Executive Leadership Team, program leads and the Board to identify strategic funding opportunities, shape compelling propositions and secure significant multi-year funding partnerships. 

The role provides strategic leadership to the organisation's Development function, including working closely with the Manager, Development & Philanthropy, and is a regular participant in Senior Leadership Team meetings, contributing advice on organisational growth, revenue diversification and strategic partnerships. 



This role is suited to a commercially minded and purpose-driven leader who enjoys building relationships, identifying opportunities and translating ambitious organisational strategies into sustainable funding outcomes. 


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES 

Strategic Growth & Revenue 

  • Develop and implement a multi-year fundraising and funding diversification strategy aligned with organisational priorities and growth ambitions. 
  • Build a robust portfolio of philanthropic, government, multilateral, corporate and strategic funding partnerships. 
  • Identify emerging funding trends, market opportunities and innovative partnership models that expand organisational impact. 
  • Develop annual fundraising targets, revenue forecasts and pipeline metrics. 
  • Work with the Executive Leadership Team to translate strategic priorities into compelling funding propositions. 
  • Monitor fundraising performance and recommend strategic adjustments to maximise revenue growth. 

Strategic Partnerships & Business Development 

  • Identify and cultivate new funding opportunities and secure high-value funding partnerships with philanthropic foundations, development agencies, multilateral organisations, aligned family offices and corporate partners. 
  • Lead the organisation's response to open RFPs and competitive government grant opportunities, including coordinating and leading consortium bids where relevant, engaging potential consortium partners. 
  • Develop and manage a robust pipeline of prospective funding opportunities, maintaining strong prospect research, and up to date knowledge of the evolving government and multilateral funding landscape. 
  • Lead strategic engagement with prospective funders, including presentations, negotiations and partnership discussions. 

 Funder Communications and Engagement  

  • Position AIGCC and IGCC as trusted and impactful delivery partners for climate and sustainable finance initiatives across Asia-Pacific. 
  • Collaborate with the Communications team to develop impactful funding materials, case studies and organisational narratives and success stories that resonate funders. 
  • Support the Team with the development of high-quality funding proposals, investment cases, concept notes, grant applications and partnership presentations. 
  • Support the Manager, Philanthropy and Development to nurture existing funding partnerships and ensure timely reporting, contract compliance and successful renewals. 
  • Work closely with Finance to support revenue forecasting, funding allocations and grant management. 

Leadership & Collaboration 

  • Lead and develop the organisation's Development function, providing strategic leadership and coaching and to the Manager, Development & Philanthropy. 
  • Foster a collaborative, high-performing and continuous improvement culture across the Development function. 
  • Work closely with program teams to identify funding needs and develop compelling cases for support. 
  • Support the CEO, Senior Leadership Team and Board in funder engagement, strategic briefings and major partnership opportunities. 
  • Represent the organisation externally with funders, partners and stakeholders as required 

Systems, Governance & Performance 

  • Maintain effective fundraising systems, processes and governance frameworks that support organisational growth. 
  • Ensure accurate management of fundraising activities, opportunities and stakeholder relationships within the organisation's CRM (HubSpot). 
  • Monitor funding performance against agreed targets and provide regular reporting and strategic insights to the Executive Leadership Team and Board. 
  • Ensure compliance with funding agreements, reporting obligations and organisational approval processes. 


SKILLS, EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS 

Essential 

  • Minimum 10 years' experience in strategic fundraising, philanthropy, partnerships, business development or revenue generation within the not-for-profit, impact, climate, sustainability or related sectors. 
  • Demonstrated success securing significant multi-year funding partnerships from philanthropic, government, corporate or institutional funders. 
  • Strong understanding and experience in the climate finance ecosystem, with knowledge of the funding landscape relevant to climate-focused organisations across different APAC markets 
  • Exceptional relationship management and stakeholder engagement skills, with experience building trusted relationships with institutional funders, senior executives, boards. 
  • Outstanding written communication skills with demonstrated success developing persuasive funding proposals, investment cases and reports. 
  • Excellent presentation, influencing and negotiation skills, including the ability to develop compelling executive-level presentations. 
  • Strong commercial acumen with the ability to identify emerging opportunities and translate organisational priorities into investable funding propositions. 
  • Strong project management and organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple complex priorities simultaneously. 
  • Excellent written and verbal English communication skills. 

Desirable 

  • Experience working across diverse cultures, countries and stakeholder groups. 
  • Familiarity with CRM platforms such as HubSpot and fundraising performance reporting. 
  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in business, fundraising, communications, international development, public policy or a related discipline. 

Work Arrangements 

  • This role may be based in Australia, Asia or another agreed location. 
  • Flexible working arrangements are available. 
  • Domestic and international travel will be required from time to time. 
  • Due to the organisation's regional and global partnerships, occasional work outside standard business hours will be required.
