Looking for Philippines-based candidates

Job Role: General Manager / Senior Operations Manager (Ecomm)

Compensation range: $3,000 AUD - $4,000 AUD / Monthly

Engagement type: Independent Contractor Agreement

Work Schedule: This role is expected to align with the AU business hours (approx. 9 AM - 5 PM AEST or 4 PM - 11 PM PHT, Monday to Friday) for collaboration, but as a contractor, you’ll have flexibility in how you manage your time.

Who We Are: At Hunt St, we help Australian companies hire top remote talent in the Philippines. For this role, you will be engaged directly by the client as an independent contractor. We are not an outsourcing agency. All of our roles are 100% remote so you'll be able to work from home.

Who The Client Is: You'll be working directly with a small group of founders in their thirties running a busy, fast-paced, productivity-driven business. We're heavily AI-driven and hold ourselves — and expect everyone around us — to a high bar for efficiency and output. We're self-starters ourselves, and we're looking for the same energy in return.

We're flexible on how things get done, but we're not looking to babysit anyone. We expect responsibility, accountability, and high output as the baseline. If you think there's a better way to do something, we want to hear it — we're guiding, not dictating, and we're genuinely open to being challenged and pushed back on. Raising a better idea with us is always welcome, never a problem.

We're also very hands-on founders. We won't be standing back and handing things off entirely — we'll be in the detail with you, working alongside you, and we understand our own systems well. We're comfortable with AI ourselves, but we're looking for this role to be excellent at it — someone we can genuinely learn from and lean on as the AI expert in the business.

It's a busy, fast-moving environment — but we don't take ourselves too seriously. There's plenty of room to joke around and have fun along the way.

Role Overview: We are looking for a highly proactive, senior-level Operations Manager / General Manager to be the operational glue that holds our business together. We already work with a marketing agency, a dedicated customer service team member, and external logistics partners (freight forwarding, 3PL, couriers) — this role isn't about replacing any of them. It's about being the person who connects those pieces, keeps a constant pulse on how each one is performing, catches problems before they become expensive, and makes sure nothing falls through the cracks. You'll have real ownership over how smoothly the business runs day to day, without needing to personally execute every function yourself.

Requirements

Operations, Logistics & Inventory Management

  • Monitor and coordinate our external logistics network — freight forwarding, 3PL/warehouse, and courier partners — ensuring flawless day-to-day execution across the shipping and fulfilment chain.
  • Lead and participate in meetings with 3PL warehouses, freight forwarders, and factories.
  • Monitor inventory levels, forecast demand based on sales trends, and proactively flag stock risks — via email, phone, meetings, or task assignment — without needing to be prompted.
  • Liaise directly with factories and suppliers, including proactively calling (not just emailing) to chase up production, shipments, and delays.
  • Track shipments via parcel/logistics tracking services, troubleshoot issues as they arise, and escalate in real time when something is at risk.
  • Apply a working understanding of import/export and customs clearance processes (not form completion, but a solid grasp of how shipments move through customs).

Team Leadership & Delegation

  • Directly manage the customer service team, with direct reports expected to grow as the business scales.
  • Prioritise, delegate, and track tasks across the team using a task management platform (e.g. ClickUp), owning implementation and adoption of such tools.
  • Take ownership of bespoke, ad hoc tasks delegated by the founders — either completing them directly or delegating and following through.
  • Proactively flag capacity issues rather than letting tasks stall — the founders should never need to chase progress.
  • As the team grows, take an active role in hiring — including screening and interviewing future team members alongside the founders.

AI, Systems & Automation

  • Own AI integration across the business as a core part of the role — applying advanced, hands-on experience with AI tools beyond basic chat use, including building automations, integrations, and connectors (e.g. with Claude and Gemini) to streamline reporting and operational workflows.
  • Continuously adapt and evolve these automations as new AI models, tools, and methods become available, keeping our processes as efficient and productive as possible.
  • Use AI tools independently to research unknowns and solve problems before escalating.

Customer Service

  • Oversee our customer service team member's performance, with regular spot-checks of the inbox to keep a genuine pulse on customer satisfaction and emerging issues — not simply relying on reported summaries.
  • Step into escalations when needed, drawing on strong emotional intelligence to read tone and sentiment in both written and spoken English.
  • Proactively own and evolve our customer service SOPs — identifying recurring issues and making changes that measurably improve customer satisfaction and reduce complaint volume over time, rather than just responding to problems as they come up.

Documentation & Process

  • Build out and maintain all outstanding Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for the business.
  • Maintain strict, consistent formatting, fonts, and structure across all documentation.
  • Comfortable creating and refining SOPs on the fly during periods of growth or change — not just maintaining documentation once things are already stable.

Marketing & Stakeholder Coordination

  • Attend marketing team meetings and translate marketing activity (promotions, campaigns, content pushes) into operational impact — e.g. anticipated changes in demand, customer engagement, or inventory needs.
  • Marketing strategy and execution stay with our external marketing agency — this role's focus is coordination, translation into operational impact, and flagging issues, not running campaigns.
  • Set and run meetings with suppliers, 3PLs, consultants, and other stakeholders — owning the communication end-to-end.
  • Be willing and able to hold suppliers, agencies, or consultants accountable when they are not meeting expectations.
  • Support outreach efforts as needed (e.g. setting meetings with potential partners such as sporting teams).

eCommerce Platform & Site Management

  • Own product catalog/listing management and keep site content current and accurate.
  • Understand conversion rate optimisation (CRO) and site/UX performance well enough to flag issues and work with the relevant specialists to fix them.
  • Basic understanding of multi-channel/marketplace sales (e.g. Amazon, TikTok Shop), with the ability to learn and adapt quickly if/when we expand beyond our own site.

Retail, Wholesale & Partnerships Outreach

  • Reach out to and negotiate with potential retailers — both physical and online — on terms and conditions of sale, drafting contracts and submitting them to the founders for final approval before anything is signed.
  • Identify and pursue bulk purchase opportunities with hotels and other wholesale/distribution partners, including outreach, calls, meetings, and securing supply contracts.
  • Support partnerships outreach, including athlete and other authoritative-figure (e.g. medical/doctor) endorsement opportunities, to help build brand credibility and reach.

Data & Commercial Ownership

  • Comfortable analysing performance metrics and KPIs and turning them into clear, actionable recommendations — not just reporting numbers back.
  • Working budget/P&L literacy — able to forecast and manage spend within their area, even without owning the full P&L.
  • Run regular inventory audits in partnership with the warehouse/3PL, and manage inventory reporting and invoicing.
  • Awareness of cash flow and working capital — understanding how inventory timing, order volume, and payment terms affect the cash tied up in the business, and flagging when something looks off.
  • Basic awareness of currency/FX exposure — understanding how exchange rate movements affect landed cost and margin on internationally sourced stock.
  • Enough commercial awareness of pricing to flag when a promotion, discount, or bundle risks eroding margin — without owning pricing strategy itself.

Vendor & Tech Stack Management

  • Manage vendor relationships and third-party platform integrations across our tech stack.
  • General marketing literacy — a solid enough understanding of how marketing campaigns and channels work to hold our external marketing agency accountable and translate their activity into operational impact.
  • Work alongside the founders to measure consultant/agency performance against agreed KPIs, and take part in running regular consultant performance reviews.

Commercial Awareness & Team Building

  • Stay outward-looking — aware of industry trends and competitor activity, not just internally focused on our own operations.
  • As the team grows, build and mentor team members rather than just managing tasks.

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

  • Customer service inbox fully actioned by the end of each business day — whether handled directly or in conjunction with the customer service rep they manage.
  • All trackers and reporting kept fully up to date, with no lag between what's happening operationally and what's reflected in our systems.
  • No stockouts — proactive demand forecasting and clear, ongoing communication of timelines so we always know when orders need to be placed and are never caught out.
  • Ongoing development in AI and automation — at least one new automation introduced per month that meaningfully reduces time spent (theirs or ours) and drives a measurable productivity gain for the business.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

Experience

  • Solid experience in operations management, general management, logistics, or inventory management — ideally including international logistics/import-export exposure.
  • A background that spans a variety of roles, with demonstrated ability to step up into a broad, senior generalist position.
  • Experience working remotely for an international/offshore employer is highly regarded.
  •  Experience across a D2C and B2B mix is attractive — comfortable operating across both consumer-facing and business-facing sides of a business.
  • Prior B2B sales experience is attractive — e.g. negotiating and closing large/bulk orders with retailers, distributors, or wholesale partners (this is not a retail sales role, but the role does carry a sales element around securing larger wholesale/bulk supply deals).
  •  Direct experience managing international incoming stock, product, and freight — including ownership of timelines from origin through to delivery.
  • Experience with local demand profiling and stock forecasting, with the ability to plan and manage the gap between manufacture time and actual arrival of stock, often spanning several months.

Technical & Software Skills

Critical

  • Number one priority: genuine, hands-on ability to integrate AI into everyday operations — building automations and workflow integrations (e.g. with Gemini and Claude), and continuously adapting these as new models, tools, and methods become available, to keep making processes more efficient and productive.
  •  Fluency in Google Workspace.
  • Solid experience in operations and inventory management, including international logistics and import/export exposure.
  • Demonstrated people management, team leadership, and delegation experience.
  • Project/task management ownership — comfortable running the team's workflow through a platform such as ClickUp or similar.
  • Strong e-commerce fluency — hands-on experience operating on e-commerce sales platforms, with a solid working understanding of how e-commerce operations function end-to-end.
  • General understanding of customs clearance and import/export terminology.
  • Experience with accounting software (e.g. Xero, QuickBooks, or similar) and a basic grasp of bookkeeping principles — profit & loss, expenses, margins, and how to read standard financial reports.
  • Microsoft 365 experience.

Nice to Have

  • Shopify experience, including familiarity with Shopify apps/plugins.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Clarity and Klaviyo.
  • Hands-on technical knowledge of SEO/SEM/email marketing tools and tactics (beyond general literacy).

Language & Communication

  •  Fully fluent, professional-level English — written and spoken — including the ability to read emotional tone and intent in both formats, given this role owns customer escalations.
  • Comfortable and confident on the phone — proactively calling suppliers, factories, logistics providers, and partners rather than waiting on email replies.

Attitude & Working Style

  • Highly proactive self-starter — the founders should never need to chase this person for updates or progress.
  •  Comfortable operating with autonomy and taking ownership of outcomes, while keeping stakeholders proactively informed.
  • Adaptable to new tools and technology, with the confidence to challenge underperforming suppliers, agencies, or consultants.
  • Genuinely enjoys being "hands on" — willing to jump on a call or chase an issue directly rather than waiting for a reply.
  • trong prioritisation skills across a broad and varied workload.
  •  Bonus: genuine interest and passion in business growth — someone who naturally thinks about how operational decisions tie back to growing the business, not just keeping it running.
  •  Confident enough to hold the founders accountable — comfortable pushing back and saying if we're moving too slowly, prioritising the wrong things, or dropping the ball, not just executing quietly.
  •  Easy-going, team-first attitude — serious about the work, but able to keep things light and enjoy the day-to-day with the team.
  • • A "locks in" mentality — someone who can switch into deep focus and get things done when it matters, not just generally busy.
  •  Genuinely comfortable with continuous learning — new software and tools will be introduced regularly over the months and years ahead, and they should expect to adapt to new systems as a normal, ongoing part of the role.

Growth Path

This is a fixed role at a senior, lead-manager level from day one. As the business scales, this person will be given increasing resources, direct reports, and autonomy to delegate across a growing team.

Work Arrangement & Expectations:

This is a remote role that will be set up as an independent contractor engagement.

To ensure alignment and transparency, successful candidates will be expected to:

  • Disclose any existing ongoing roles or client work
  • Reflect this engagement on their LinkedIn profile (clearly marked as “Independent Contractor”)
  • Approximately 40–50 hours/week, primarily Monday–Friday with some weekend availability as needed.
  • Core working hours apply; any planned deviation (e.g. for personal commitments) should be communicated and blocked out in advance.
  • Flexibility in working hours may be introduced over time, once a strong working relationship and trust have been established.
  • Compensation and benefits will be discussed and managed via the recruiting agency.
