We seek a talented, highly motivated Director for Energy, Climate & Resources (ECR), based in Asia, to lead the practice.


BGA’s Energy, Climate & Resources (ECR) practice supports companies whose businesses are shaped by energy security, the energy transition, resource policy and industrial decarbonization. The portfolio spans oil and gas/LNG, power and renewables, chemicals, mining and critical minerals, agriculture and biofuels, and adjacent growth areas such as grid modernization, green buildings, battery storage, hydrogen and new fuels, carbon management, and data centers. Candidates should bring the ability to connect these sectors’ commercial priorities with geopolitical, regulatory, market-access, supply-chain, and stakeholder dynamics across BGA markets.

 

The candidate should be motivated to help the world’s premier companies understand Asia and Africa, find alignment with customers, communities, and key stakeholders by considering the ideas and capabilities of top-tier companies that want to invest.  This position will report to BGA’s Vice President, based in Singapore. Position Responsibilities

The Director of Energy, Climate & Resources is responsible for managing client service and business development for BGA’s global ECR business. Directors share responsibility for all aspects of business development and client relationship management, including developing trusting and effective working relationships, communicating regularly with clients and BGA professionals worldwide, guiding the delivery of exceptional service, and contributing insights and ideas into all aspects of our work. Together with a team of client services professionals and BGA leadership, associates support the management and growth of our client relationships and deliver services that exceed expectations.


The Director serves as a senior representative and thought leader, positioning the firm as a trusted advisor OR trusted authority in the ECR policy landscape. She or he leverages experience, best practices, and data-driven insights to build capacity, improve client service across markets, and advise management on business decisions and investments to enable quality growth. 


This is a fast-paced and demanding role which requires high EQ, excellent communication skills, initiative, innate curiosity, and the ability to foster collaboration while translating information into action on deadline across the BGA enterprise. 


Business Development:

  • Build and execute BGA’s global business development agenda for the ECR sector. Identify the issues, industries, and specific companies where BGA can add value, and pursue the opportunities alongside BGA’s country experts. 
  • Lead, coordinate, and advise on the design and execution of regional and single-market business pursuits, including building scopes of work, RFP responses, and pitches. Apply knowledge of BGA’s global experience, best practices, and global cases to establish competitive service offerings and commercial proposals to clients.
  • Represent BGA and serve as a thought leader in relevant industry forums and events to network with industry players, generate new business leads, and showcase BGA’s expertise and position as an industry leader in ECR policy advisory.
  • Iterate and improve upon BGA’s business development and sales processes to drive efficient and effective coordination of business development efforts among internal stakeholders, particularly for regional opportunities. Utilize BGA’s systems and technology to ensure accurate and timely sharing of information throughout BGA.

 

Client Service

  • Manage BGA’s relationships with ECR clients at the global level and serve as the key POC for regional counterparts within client organizations. Establish trusting relationships with the people with whom we work, including clients, decision-makers, executives, and technology stakeholders.
  • Develop a highly sophisticated understanding of clients’ business models, organizational structures, initiatives, and challenges and opportunities in BGA markets. Ensure this information is regularly and widely disseminated to, and understood by, BGA stakeholders via BGA communications platforms.  
  • Improve BGA’s client services and ensure that BGA’s ECR teams are consistently providing value and impact to clients across countries and regions, leveraging and learning from global and country best practices. This may include convening groups of ECR-focused personnel for internal workshops, trainings, and other capacity-building exercises.
  • Lead the planning and execution of retention strategies to preserve and grow the value of BGA’s client relationships, in close coordination with country teams. This includes:
  • Lead cross-functional coordination and support, including reviewing, improving and providing internal feedback for regional client deliverables.
  • Solicit feedback from client stakeholders and share with relevant country teams and analysts.  
  • Seek opportunities to engage new business prospects, develop new clients, and identify and expand engagement with existing clients.

 

Sector Management

  • Closely track, monitor, and report to management on the global sector performance. This includes regularly updating leadership and key stakeholders on business performance, new business, and new opportunities.
  • Regularly and meticulously update Salesforce to ensure accuracy of revenue projections and forecasting.
  • Leverage data and BD team metrics to analyze and report on business trends to country team management and BGA leadership, and steer new strategies for improved client service and business growth. Advise management on resource investments (personnel, professional development, intelligence resources, and more) that will support the growth of the business.
  • Advise and participate in recruitment efforts for ECR-specific talent.


Thought Leadership

  • Develop and maintain an active network among stakeholders engaged in or influential to policy and the ECR landscape. This includes policymakers, diplomats, journalists, corporate professionals, and those in business associations, think-tanks, academic institutions, etc. 
  • Develop subject matter expertise and seek out opportunities to demonstrate that expertise in fora recognized by BGA clients and business development prospects. Serve as an internal educator and champion of your subject matter expertise.  
  • Seek and initiate opportunities to raise BGA’s ECR profile and find opportunities for team members to attend relevant events and to demonstrate market leadership and value publicly and to select audiences. 

 

Job Requirements

The director’s position combines client relations with the skills and responsibilities required for internal management and leadership. The ideal candidate can work independently with minimal supervision and collaborate effectively as a team player in high-pressure situations. He or she can effectively manage multiple work streams while meeting deadlines and should be highly self-motivated, well-organized, detail-oriented, and collegial. She or he should feel comfortable interacting with a range of interlocutors and should enjoy the various challenges of supporting large multinational corporations operating in the Indo-Pacific. The ability to interact effectively both inside the company and externally, in a fast-paced environment, while remaining flexible, proactive and efficient, is crucial to this role.  

 

 Qualifications Include:

  • A keen understanding of the geopolitical and regulatory environment in the Indo-Pacific and how to navigate it on behalf of clients is required. 
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills in fluent English; proficiency in an Asian language is a strong plus.  
  • Education: Minimum bachelor’s degree; graduate degree in business, public policy, public affairs, international affairs, journalism, or related fields is preferred.
  • 5-10 years of experience in government, multinational corporations, journalism, and/or consulting in the ECR sector is strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience in and passion for energy, climate, environment, or resource policy, or closely related fields.
  • Aptitude for public speaking and project presentations and engaging confidently and thoughtfully with corporate representatives of various levels, civil society, and the media. 
  • Superb and self-confident interpersonal skills, including with international counterparts. 
  • Proficiency in MS Office and basic internet applications is required, as is enthusiasm and ability to learn and adopt new technologies.
