The Director, Procurement & Vendor Management is responsible for owning and leading the company’s procurement strategy, vendor governance model, and third party risk management framework. This role plays a critical part in driving cost efficiency, ensuring contractual and regulatory compliance, and enabling scalable growth through strong vendor partnerships aligned with business objectives.

 

Operating with broad accountability and strategic autonomy, the Director partners closely with Finance, Legal, IT, Product, People, and Executive Leadership to guide sourcing decisions, negotiate complex agreements, manage vendor performance, and oversee enterprise wide spend. This role has direct people leadership responsibility and serves as the executive owner of procurement and vendor management practices across the organization.

 

Key Responsibilities

 

Enterprise Procurement Strategy & Governance

  • Define and lead the company’s procurement and vendor management strategy, aligned with financial goals, risk tolerance, and operational needs.
  • Establish enterprise-wide procurement policies, governance frameworks, and approval standards.
  • Oversee end to end procurement lifecycle across all spend categories, including sourcing strategy, RFPs, contract negotiation, onboarding, renewals, and offboarding.
  • Serve as executive point of accountability for third party spend, vendor risk, and compliance.

Vendor Management, Performance & Risk

  • Own strategic vendor relationships and executive level escalations.
  • Oversee vendor performance management, including SLAs, KPIs, service reviews, and corrective action plans.
  • Lead quarterly and annual business reviews with critical vendors.
  • Ensure strong vendor controls, risk assessments, and governance practices in partnership with Legal, Security, and Finance.
  • Oversee dispute resolution, service failures, and remediation efforts.

Financial Partnership & Spend Optimization

  • Partner with Finance to support budgeting, forecasting, and long range planning related to vendor spend.
  • Identify and deliver cost saving opportunities, efficiency gains, and contract optimizations across the vendor portfolio.
  • Provide executive level reporting on spend, savings, vendor performance, and risk exposure.
  • Ensure procurement practices support scalability, margin improvement, and financial discipline.

Leadership, Team Development & Cross Functional Partnership

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a high performing procurement and vendor management team.
  • Set clear priorities, performance expectations, and development plans for direct reports.
  • Work cross functionally with Product, IT, People, and Operations leaders to align procurement activity with business strategy and delivery timelines.
  • Provide expert guidance to internal stakeholders to ensure procurement processes are efficient, compliant, and value driven.

Process Improvement & Operational Excellence

  • Evaluate and continuously improve procurement workflows, tools, and systems to enhance efficiency and transparency.
  • Standardize documentation, playbooks, and operating procedures across procurement and vendor management.
  • Ensure processes scale effectively with organizational growth, complexity, and regulatory requirements.
  • Support business continuity planning related to critical vendors and outsourced services.

Success Indicators

  • Procurement strategy drives measurable cost savings, risk reduction, and operational efficiency.
  • Vendor performance meets or exceeds contractual and business expectations.
  • Enterprise spend is well governed, transparent, and aligned with financial plans.
  • Vendor related risk, audit findings, and compliance issues are minimal and well managed.
  • Procurement and vendor management capabilities scale effectively with company growth.

About You

Experience & Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business, Supply Chain, or related field; advanced degree a plus.
  • 8–12+ years of experience in procurement, vendor management, or sourcing roles.
  • Proven leadership experience managing teams and complex vendor portfolios.
  • Experience in SaaS, technology, HR services, or BPO environments strongly preferred.

Technical & Professional Skills

  • Expertise in sourcing strategy, contract negotiation, and vendor governance across categories, with deep experience in sourcing software and technology infrastructure.
  • Strong financial acumen with experience managing large, complex spend portfolios.
  • Strong understanding of third-party risk management, compliance, and controls.
  • Exceptional stakeholder management and executive communication skills.
  • Analytical mindset with ability to translate data into actionable insights and decisions.
