Director: Patient Financial Services & Clearance

Role & Summary of Responsibilities

Lead the teams that help patients navigate insurance, authorization, and the financial side of care.

We are looking for a healthcare operations leader who understands that great Patient Financial Services is about much more than processing transactions.

It is about helping patients navigate some of the most complicated parts of healthcare while building an operation that is accurate, efficient, scalable, and easy for employees to execute.

As our Director, Patient Financial Services & Clearance, you will lead four critical functions: Prior Authorization,

Insurance & Benefits Verification, and Patient Financial Services.

This is a highly visible leadership role reporting directly to the COO. We are not looking for someone who simply

manages queues, reviews productivity reports, and keeps the operation running exactly as it does today. We want a builder, problem solver, people leader, and operator.

You should be comfortable looking at a backlog and figuring out why it exists. You should want to understand why a patient keeps calling about a statement. You should notice when employees are performing unnecessary manual work and ask whether technology can eliminate it.

And you should genuinely enjoy leading people.

• Lead and develop managers, supervisors and operational teams.
• Improve Prior Authorization turnaround times and reduce aged inventory.
• Build stronger insurance and benefits-verification processes.
• Improve LOMN and documentation workflows.
• Create a better patient financial experience.
• Improve first-contact resolution for patient financial questions.
• Reduce unnecessary rework and manual administrative work.
• Build meaningful dashboards and performance-management systems.
• Use data to identify root causes and opportunities.
• Partner with Technology and Data teams to automate workflows.

• Evaluate AI and other emerging tools that can make operations better.
• Develop staffing and capacity models.
• Identify risks before they become operational problems.
• Work cross-functionally with clinical, scheduling, revenue cycle, technology, finance, and operations leaders.
• Serve as a trusted operational partner to the COO.

What You'll Bring

• Bachelor's degree in Healthcare Administration, Business Administration, Finance, Operations, or related discipline, or equivalent relevant experience.
• 5+ years of progressive healthcare operations, revenue cycle, financial clearance, patient financial services, or related experience.
• 2+ years of leadership experience with responsibility for managers, supervisors, or multi-functional teams.
• Significant experience with prior authorization and/or financial clearance operations.
• Strong understanding of insurance eligibility and benefits verification.
• Experience with patient financial services, financial counseling, patient billing support, payment arrangements, or related patient-facing financial operations.
• Demonstrated success improving operational performance.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
• Experience working with healthcare technology, EMR/practice management systems, payer portals, reporting platforms, or workflow tools.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain strong relationships with employees at all organizational levels.
• Ability for some international travel

Preferred

• Experience in a multi-site physician group, specialty healthcare organization, ambulatory environment, or other high-volume healthcare organization.
• Experience leading centralized or geographically distributed operations.
• Experience with commercial insurance and complex authorization requirements.
• Experience managing offshore, nearshore, or international teams.
• Experience with workflow automation, AI, RPA, or healthcare technology implementation.
• Experience with NextGen or similar EMR/practice-management systems.
• Experience supporting organizational growth across multiple states or markets.
