Director Operations

The Director, EDGE, provides strategic leadership for technology pursuit, solution development, and implementation readiness activities. This role oversees the EDGE organization, including Implementation General Managers, sector dedicated Project Managers, and Technical Services resources, ensuring the development of innovative, executable, and financially sound customer solutions. Partnering closely with Business Development and cross-functional teams, the Director leads operational strategy, solution development, proposal creation, and customer engagement activities throughout the pursuit lifecycle. The role is accountable for ensuring seamless transition of awarded business into implementation and operations, preserving solution integrity from concept through execution.

This position requires deep expertise in supply chain operations, automation, engineering, solution development, and customer-facing presentations, along with a passion for operational excellence and execution. This role could be located anywhere in the US, with travel expected to be approximately 50-80%.

Key Accountabilities / Primary Duties & Responsibilities

• Lead and develop the EDGE organization, providing strategic direction and oversight for Implementation General Managers, Project Managers, and Technical Services resources.
• Partner with Business Development and functional leaders to develop winning pursuit strategies, customer proposals, and operational solutions.
• Ensure solutions are innovative, executable, scalable, and financially sound while aligning with customer requirements and DHL operational standards.
• Lead customer-facing solution workshops, presentations, site visits, and executive discussions throughout the pursuit process.
• Drive automation, engineering, continuous improvement, and operational best practices within solution development activities.
• Provide governance and oversight across the pursuit lifecycle, ensuring clear ownership, risk management, and resource alignment.
• Ensure successful transition of awarded business into implementation through assignment and leadership of implementation resources and teams.
• Maintain solution continuity and accountability from concept development through operational launch.
• Establish and standardize methodologies, tools, and best practices for solution development, implementation readiness, and pursuit execution.
• Develop organizational capability, mentor future leaders, and foster a culture of accountability, innovation, and execution excellence.
• Serve as the senior operational representative during customer pursuits, constructively challenging assumptions and ensuring operational feasibility of proposed solutions.
• Drive business growth by delivering solutions that balance customer value, operational excellence, and financial performance.

Director Operations

The Director of Operations has a national salary range of $150,000 - $200,000.

Job Description

We’re looking for an Operations Director to lead multiple distribution centers – each with individual customers who have their own sets of requirements. You’ll cultivate customer relationships, becoming an extension of their business and enabling DHL Supply Chain to play a required role in their success. You’ll be held to very high standards – because our company has set a very high standard in our industry.

Our ideal Operations Director has a full understanding of the importance of customer relationships – including the crucial role of the General Manager, Operations Managers and front-line Supervisors in growing those relationships. This position is a critical link between each distribution center and senior leadership and is held accountable for the success and growth of the group.

Required Education and Experience

• Bachelors degree or equivalent experience, required
• MBA or equivalent, preferred
• 7+ years of experience within supply chain, required
• 3+ years of progressive experience in at least one of the following: strategy development and implementation, operations management, or organization design and implementation, required
• Experience as a management consultant or in a strategic role within a supply chain function, preferred
